“Or, I can pick you up and we could go for a drive in the mountains and have a picnic and you can check it for me yourself.”
“Mr. O’Connor….
“Liam.”
“Liam, I’m not sure it’s a good idea. I mean, you’re my boss’s brother. My boss is marrying the president of my country. If anyone sees us, there will be talk and…” She didn’t finish.
“We can meet someplace private where no one will see us,” I said. “Unless you don’t want to see me again.” Which I know you do.
“I want to see you again.”
“Do you know a place for us to meet?” I asked. I figured this was her home – she’d know the nooks and crannies far better.
“I…do.”
“I’d like to get to know you. Kyleigh.”
“I’d like to get to know you too, Liam. I can text you the information on where we can meet tomorrow. Is that okay?”
“It’s perfect.” We exchanged numbers. “I guess I’d better get out of here before Finn decides to come looking for me.”
“Call me if you have any trouble with your wound tonight,” Kyleigh said before she rushed off.
I do have an ache, but it’s not in my side.
I never thought getting knifed would be a positive thing, but the way Kyleigh looked at me before she left, I had a feeling she wanted more than a picnic with me. Maybe it was just my imagination, because she was the only woman here who had even looked me directly in the eyes. She also didn’t take my shit when I complained about the care I was getting. She was different, and I liked that.
Who knows what tomorrow will bring? But it has to be better than today.
My phone rang, and I saw it was Finn.
Shit.
“Hi, Finn. Sorry. I meant to call. Need to cancel our dinner tonight.”
“Everything okay?” he asked.
“Yeah. Just a long day finishing up the wall at the house. Going to bed early.”
“Want to try again tomorrow?” he offered.
“You enjoy some time with Reesa. I’ll catch up with you over the weekend,” I replied.
“Okay. But if you get bored, you know how to find us,” he said and ended the call.
With any luck my boredom is about to come to an end.
