“Kyleigh, I’ll never try to force you into anything you don’t want. If you really want to be alone, then I’ll leave you alone.”

I nodded, grabbed my bag, and left his hotel room. Even as I got into the elevator, I knew that he hadn’t broken my heart. I did that myself.

When I got down to the street, I looked around and realized that I wasn’t as familiar with public transportation as I had previously stated. I wasn’t about to go back up to his room and admit I needed him. That didn’t mean I couldn’t ask someone else for help.

Pulling out my cell phone, I called Morgan.

“Good morning. How was your night?” she asked.

“It was okay. But I have a favor to ask,” I said.

“What is it?”

“Can I come back and stay with you guys?” I was so embarrassed having to ask, but I had no choice. I really shouldn’t have left in the first place.

“Kyleigh, you’re welcome as long as you need a place. We had anticipated you being here for the entire three weeks.”

“Thank you. And I have one more question. How do I find a ride to the school?” I asked.

“That’s easy. You’re in Boston, right?” she questioned.

“I am.”

“Shaun is as well. Why don’t you text me your location and I’ll have him swing by and pick you up?”

“Oh, I can’t ask him to do that. He probably has work to do,” I said.

“I think he was just looking for an excuse to get out of helping me with the dishes this morning,” she chuckled.

“Thank you, Morgan. You have no idea how much this means to me.”

“Kyleigh, I am here for you. And if you need someone to talk to, I’m here for that as well. And whatever you tell me stays with me. I won’t even share with Shaun.”

“I’d…like that. I…could use some advice. I have friends back home, but they all have…similar backgrounds. I need to understand someone who isn’t from Tabiq.”

“Kyleigh, I will listen, but what I can tell you is if this has to do with men, there is no understanding them. They do what they think we want, instead of doing what we want.”

I chuckled. “Exactly. How do you fix that?”

Morgan said, “I’ve been married for several years and haven’t figured that out. But maybe tonight you can tell me what happened and together we’ll decipher what Liam was really trying to do. How does that sound?”

“Sounds like I’m going to need chocolate cake to get through the conversation,” I joked.

“Oh, do you know what cake needs?” she asked.

“Ice cream?” I guessed.

Morgan laughed. “See how easy we women are to figure out. Okay, send your address and I’ll send Shaun right away.”

“Thank you,” I said and ended the call.

Maybe after speaking with Morgan, I’d have more clarity on what I really wanted with Liam. I didn’t want my fears to control my happiness. Liam definitely made me happy, but he frustrated me, too. My head was spinning, and the more I thought about him, about us, the worse it got. I hated dragging a third party into this, but maybe she’d see what I couldn’t.

I know I said I don’t want to see you anymore, Liam, but please don’t leave before I can figure out what it is I do want.
