“Don’t worry, Jasper. I’m following the doctor’s orders,” I said.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out something I had been missing. “I thought you might like this.”

Smiling, I reached for my cell phone. “Oh, God, yes. Back home, if you’re in the hospital, you have a television in your room.”

“This is not a hotel. If you aren’t that sick, you leave,” Jasper said seriously.

Where was the light and easygoing man from yesterday? Was that a fluke or did the change have more to do with the fact Burke was there too? Seeing the two of them together revealed something major; my decision to stay with Jasper was the correct one. Getting him alone was the only way Jasper would let his guard down.

“Another day here and I think I’ll be ready to leave. Are you sure you want me as a guest?” I asked.

“I don’t change my mind once I decide something,” Jasper responded.

Not the welcoming statement I wanted, but I was not entirely sure the comment had been meant for me.

Smiling, I said lightly, “Does that mean I get clothes tomorrow?”

“If the doctor has no issue with it, your clothes will be here. I’ll speak to him when I leave,” Jasper stated.

Since there wasn’t anything truly personal about clothing, I let that slide. And even though Logan was a Henderson, he was a doctor and I trusted him to keep his oath and not discuss any privileged information. “When you do, please tell him I’m ready to get out of here.”

Jasper nodded. “I’ll tell him that you can be on bed rest at my home just as easily as here.”

“Bed rest?” I asked. “I have work to do.”

“If you don’t follow the doctor’s orders, I’ll fire you. Then you won’t need to worry about your work,” he said.

Burke chuckled and added, “That’s one way to get what you want.”

Jasper continued looking at me as he responded to Burke. “I always get what I want.”

I don’t think you’re talking about me anymore.
