His brow furrowed.

“Now!” I ran to the passenger side and threw open the door just as the engine roared to life.

“You in?” Xander asked.

“Drive.” I slammed the door and Xander backed up before going forward and flipping around so we could flee the scene.

“I get the feeling I’m missing something,” he said.

“Head to the mortuary in Old Town and I’ll catch you up on the way.” While he navigated us out of Dead Man’s Alley, I filled him in on the interaction with David.

“Why help us?” he asked.

“I’m not sure. But who knows what he’ll do next time.”

“Let’s hope there’s not a next time.”

My stomach tightened. For some reason the thought of not seeing David again was almost as terrifying as running into him. His magic did a serious number on me. I tried to shake free of him but there was a lingering desire that I couldn’t remove. I hoped it wore off soon. The last thing I needed in my life was romantic feelings toward a psychotic demon who was hunting me.
