“Feisty, but you have no training,” he says. “They’re going to eat you alive at the academy.”
My brow furrows. I have no idea what he’s talking about but I know he’s got to be batshit crazy. “Let me go.”
I want to check my friends for a pulse. That’s the reasonable thing to do. But I also already know that they’re dead. I can’t explain it, but I can feel the death in the room. I know there’s no saving them. I should be focused on trying to save myself but I only want to hurt this murderer.
The man walks over to me and I notice his eyes for the first time. They’re amber with slits like a cat. Who has eyes like that? His square jaw is tense and his full lips are pressed into a line as he approaches. It’s like he’s studying me.
“Just take the electronics and get out.” Deep down, I know he’s not here to rob us but I have to try.
He stops in front of me. “Say goodbye to the human realm. Because they’re never going to let you back in after this.”
The second man, the handsome one with the violet eyes walks over to me. I flinch as he reaches toward me but can’t bring myself to run from him.
Something sharp bites into my neck and I gasp. He’s holding a syringe and still grinning at me.
I open my mouth to speak but words don’t come. Instead, everything goes black.
