This is wrong. Carrying this girl to my car, looking over my shoulder the entire time, is the opposite of what I should be doing.

Nobody can know I did this.

She’s out cold. I can only imagine how much he put in her drink to knock her out like this. Then again, she’s small. Tiny, even. It might not have taken much.

They like the small girls. Yeah, hot is important, but small is even more important. Small means not being able to fight back. Small means easy to hide. Easy to transport.

That’s working in my favor now as I fold her into the backseat of my car and close the door before taking another look around. I’m at a far enough distance from the resort and the party raging by the pool that the music is much softer, and the bright lights are only a colorful glow. No one followed me—probably too busy trying to find her on the beach.

The sooner I get her away from here, the better.

I can’t help but check the rearview mirror again and again as I drive her to my place. I don’t think anybody noticed me at the party. Jake was too busy with her to spot me watching from the other side of the crowded pool. When he’s in work mode, a bomb could drop on his head and he wouldn’t notice.

I’ve only seen him in action a few times. I don’t normally hang around and watch him pick up the bait I dangled in front of his face, but tonight I did.

It won’t matter I took her. There are dozens of girls just as hot and gullible as this one, up and down the beach. They all come here to let loose for a while. Anything goes on vacation. Most of them are half-drunk the whole time so it’s easy to pick them off. He’ll have to find another one.

Because he can’t have this one. I don’t even know why. I only know he can’t.

I pull up in front of what used to be an abandoned shack in a cove surrounded by trees. It’s mine now. I chose it because it’s so remote. Nobody bothers me here since I left the outside looking about as shitty as it did when I first stumbled upon it a couple of years ago. The roof no longer leaks and the windows actually lock now, but otherwise it’s the same rundown looking place it was before I made some repairs.

Inside, it’s a different story. I have replaced everything, right down to the tiled floors. The single room is long and wide, big enough that I could section it off into a living room, a kitchen, and a bedroom area. There’s even a bathroom walled up in the far-right corner.

I carry her—Bree; I heard her friend call her at the pool earlier today—to the bed at the back left and set her down as gently as I can on the navy comforter. Finally, I have the chance to get a good look at her up close instead of from a distance, the way I’ve been watching her all day. From the second I set eyes on her, I knew she’d be special. And make the people who help pay my bills happy. Maybe bring in one of the highest prices of my discoveries. She’s perfect: a tight little body with perky tits and a luscious ass, ash-blonde hair that falls past her shoulders, a peaches-and-cream complexion and big, innocent, blue eyes. The All-American girl. Yes, she would’ve come with a big price tag.

So why is she here with me instead of in the back of a van with Jake and his crew?

That’s a question I can’t answer as I walk to the fridge and grab two bottled waters, then pick up a dishcloth from the counter and return to the bed. I open one and pour cold water onto the cloth. When I touch it to her cheek she jumps, eyes opening part way. God, she’s gorgeous. I’d love to see those eyes looking up at me, half-lidded like they are now, not because of any drugs in her system, because I’m inside her, claiming her the way every ounce of me wants to so nobody will ever target her.

The way I did earlier today.

She tries to push me away, but she’s too weak, too disoriented. She wouldn’t be able to even if she were sober—I’ve got a foot in height and probably close to a hundred pounds of muscle on her. There’s not much to do with my time but swim and work out when I’m not hunting for new subjects.

“It’s okay. You’re safe now.” I hold her wrists still and eventually lower them to her abdomen, where they rest while she struggles to catch her breath. “Stop panicking. You’ll hyperventilate.”

“Asshole drugged me.” Her voice is thick, words slurred.

“He did. But he’s far away from here. You’re at my house.”

She blinks hard, squinting. “You. I saw you.” She sinks back into unconsciousness, but a touch from the wet cloth brings her around again.

“And I saw you.” Understatement. “You’re lucky I did. Trust me, you wouldn’t be in a good place if I hadn’t.”

“I don’t know where I am,” she whimpers, eyes closing. “Kim. Darla. They’ll be so worried.”

“Don’t worry about them. What matters right now is you.”

“I have to leave.”

She’s determined, I’ll give her that, but it’s easy to settle her back onto the bed when she tries to get up.

“It’s gonna be okay. You’re safe now.” I run the cold cloth over her forehead, then down her cheeks. “Sleep it off. Time and a lot of water are the only things that will help.”

She focuses on me again. “You’re with him, aren’t you?”
