I started to change and ripped my shirt over my head so I could slip into the tank top from my gym bag. “The girl he followed into the parking lot happens to be my fiancée. He was pissed that I kissed her in front of him because I had overheard him running his mouth in the locker room about how he wanted to fuck her.” I shrugged into the tank top, “I may have been a bit hard on the team at practice that day because of it.”

Liam laughed. “That’s mild compared to what I would do if I heard them talking about Paisley that way. So, where’d you get a fiancée so suddenly?”

I swear I felt myself blush a little. I knew the time would come when I would have to answer this question, but I didn’t think it would be so damn soon.

“It was supposed to be a marriage of convenience for both of us.”

Liam leaned against the lockers and crossed his arms over his chest. “Supposed to be?”

“Samantha needed a fresh start after leaving her asshole ex at the altar, and I needed a woman around for Bow. She’s getting older, and I didn’t want her missing out on having a mom. It was a win-win situation for us both.”

“You mean for you. She could have gone anywhere to have a rebound. Why would she—wait, you said Samantha. Are you talking about Samantha Hendricks?”

Of course he would know about her. Hell, the whole world seemed to know who she was since the day she ran out of her own wedding, which was filled with politicians and celebrities. “Yeah. Samantha Hendricks.”

“Holy shit, Dax.”

“Yeah, I know. It was a surprise to me too when she answered my ad, but of all the answers I received she was the best candidate, and I could relate to her need to completely disappear and start over.”

“Have you been watching the news?”

“No, haven’t had the time between Bow, football, working on the house, and Sam arriving. Watching the news hasn’t been high on my list of things to do.”

“Your runaway bride has been plastered all over the news since she left her wedding. They are starting to think something happened to her.” He laughed. “Her fiancé, Josh Baker, is the son of a Senator.”

“Ex-fiancé,” I gritted out between clenched teeth. Hearing him call her some other guy’s fiancé pissed me off more than it should. She had been his fiancé a week ago, and I had yet to put my ring on her finger, so she was technically my fiancé but not. We had an agreement to marry, but that contract wasn’t binding. Nothing was binding until we said ‘I do’ and that hadn’t happened, yet.

“You sure this is just a marriage of convenience for you?” Liam gave me a knowing smirk and I wanted to use his face as a punching bag for it.

“Yeah, it’s just convenience.” I grabbed my water bottle from my bag and opened my locker to shove the large duffle back inside.

“Then maybe you need to head to Deviance to release some tension before you go home instead of hitting the gym.”

I’d be lying if I said the thought of going to the town’s sex club didn’t cross my mind, but that was before I kissed Samantha. Now the thought of touching any other woman didn’t appeal to me. That was enough of a warning to myself that I should not be considering crawling into her bed tonight, but there was no way in hell I wouldn’t be trying to open her door after Bow was down for the night. No way in hell.
