He whirled around, and slowly, so very slowly, a crooked grin hitched his lips. “I know what you sound like too.”

My mouth fell open. My feet became unstuck. I rushed forward, stopping a foot from him. “You heard me?”

He chuckled. “Yeah, Goodman, I heard. You know, there’s no insulation between our showers.”

And here I thought I’d been the only one who’d known. I guess my months of showering as silently as possible had been a wasted effort.

“And you still think everything’s okay? We just…you know…to each other’s pictures.”

His hands came down on my shoulders. “As long as you promise me we didn’t fuck anything up, I’m cool.”

I could not possibly tell him he gave me butterflies.Thatwould be the thing to ruin us. I’d clip those butterfly wings before ever admitting to their existence outside of my own head.

“I promise,” I said firmly.

He nodded once, then hooked his arm around me again. “Good. Let’s order something to eat and watch a movie. If you pickTrain to Busan, wearegoing to have problems.”

We went right back to us. Laughing, teasing, watching Korean zombies on a train until we could barely keep our eyes open. And then Adam went back to his place, shooting me a wink before he closed my door.

I would have told him he was cheesy, but I’d been too busy sharpening a mental knife. The swarm of butterflies swirling in my stomach was about to go down in a violent, bloody massacre.

They had to die.

It was my only choice.
