Iris carefully enunciated two syllables. “Fuck. Boy.”

Ronan hissed. “Meala.”

She waved him off. “It’s true. Believe it or not, the Adam you know has calmed down a lot since the days when we were all crammed together in a beater van, traveling around the country. That’s not to say he didn’t work his ass off. He did. But as soon as our shows were done, he let loose.” She snorted a laugh. “Do you know how many times we had to evacuate our little van because Adam was going at it with a groupie or two and didn’t give two shits if he had an audience?”

This was Pandora’s Box. Once I knew these things about Adam, I couldn’t unknow them. And Adam had been clear this part of his life was off-limits to me. The thing was, I was too curious for my own good.

I threw off the damn lid.

“How many?”

Her blue eyes went round. “Alot. Our boy is an exhibitionist.” She squeezed my arm. “I’m sure you already know this since you guys are such good friends.”

Ronan hauled Iris into his lap. “All right, my love. Enough telling tales on your friend. I don’t think Adam would appreciate it.”

Iris pressed her face to his. “I’m not spilling state secrets. Adelaide knows Adam. They’re besties.” Her eyes flared at me again. “Youdidknow Adam’s into public sex, right?”

My heart lodged in the back of my throat, and I just nodded. Not because I had known that—I obviously hadn’t—but because I didn’t want Iris to feel bad for talking out of turn. And I wasn’t going to tell anyone, so everyone’s secrets were safe with me.

Ronan patted my shoulder and hauled Iris away to the dance floor. June shifted in her seat, giving me a shy smile. I scooted over, taking Ronan’s seat so I was beside her and didn’t have a clear shot of Public Sex Adam flirting with the bartender.

“I’m Adelaide.”

June nodded. “I’m June, Iris’s sister.”

“If I hadn’t already known, one look at your face, and I could tell.”

Her laugh was soft and sweet. She had the same gap between her two front teeth as her sister. “We look like our mom.”

“She must be beautiful.”

June’s eyes went to her hands in her lap. “She is.” Her cheeks went pink. I was embarrassing her, and I felt terrible about it.

“My mom was the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. She was a model, so a lot of people knew her face.”

June’s eyes lifted. They didn’t quite meet mine, landing somewhere around my cheek.

“Do people tell you you look like her?” she asked.

“Yeah. And it’s weird because I know I look like her, but how can that be true? She was gorgeous, and I’m just me.”

Her bright-blue eyes finally met mine. “That’s how I feel when people compare me to Iris or my mom.”

“Right? And if people say, ‘Oh, Iris is beautiful, you look just like her,’ how do you take that? You can’t agree or you seem narcissistic. But if you disagree, you’re calling your sister ugly.”

June giggled. “I usually just change the subject.”

“Oh, I try. Believe me. But the most interesting thing about me is my parents.”

She tucked a lock of dark hair behind her ear. “My sister is the most interesting thing about me.”

“I doubt that. What do you do when you’re not being Iris’s sister?”

“I work in my dad’s office. He’s a physician.” She wrinkled her nose. “See? Boring.”

My lashes fluttered as I sighed. “June, you have no idea how much I feel you. Let me tell you aboutmyjob.”

After that, June opened up. Not a lot, but she didn’t stare at her hands, which was nice. I felt victorious. She told me she was going on tour with TSC this summer as Wren and Callum’s nanny but hadn’t told her dad yet. He was going to be pissed, but she needed out of the life he’d slotted her into.
