He probably would have nodded, but he couldn’t move his head. Instead, his eyes flared, and his lips worked to form the word “yes.” I eased my hold, and he sucked in a sharp, wheezing breath.

“Motherfucker,” he rasped. “Leave me the hell alone.”

“Gladly.” I dropped my hold, and his knees buckled. The only thing holding him half upright was the wall behind him. I stared down at him, the tips of my shoes kicking the tips of his. “As long as we’re crystal clear on our agreement, I’ll be going and never return here again.”

Logan spat at the ground but didn’t dare get it anywhere near my shoes.

“I got it.”

I stuck around for another beat or two, waiting to see if he had anything else to say for himself. All he did was attempt to burn me with his dark gaze and light up another cigarette. I let him take a deep inhale before plucking it from his mouth and tossing it on the ground.

“Those things will kill you.” I turned and walked away, heading to my waiting car, tossing a wave over my shoulder. I felt no need to look back. My message had been received, and if it didn’t stick, I’d pay Mr. Bryant more visits, until he realized Iris wasn’t his to mess with and would never be his again in bed.

Seated beside Bill in his SUV, I rolled my shoulders and cracked my neck. I carried no remorse about what had just gone down even though I shouldn’t have done it. It had been utterly unprofessional, a danger to my career and status living in the US if I’d been arrested, but that had needed to happen. Logan Bryant had needed to understand he wasn’t just messing with Iris anymore. And while she might cry to deal with her frustration and hurt, I didn’t. Action satisfied me more than anything.

I’d crossed a thousand boundaries imparting my messages, but I would be damned if that slimy little fella came near Iris again. As I made clear to him with my hand around his throat, Iris was mine to protect.

Mine.
