“I’m not saying ignore Amelia. We just need to take turns in making sure we spend time with her so she doesn’t feel the baby has taken over.”

“Right, we should do that.”

I make my way toward the bathroom for a shower. Under the hot water, my muscles relax so much that it’s a struggle to get out. After drying myself off, placing my on boxers, then brushing my teeth, I head back into the room for bed.

Addison is in her bassinet beside the bed, fast asleep from the milk coma she’s found herself in. Last night, she slept for four hours straight, but I know the second night is always the worst.

“Do you need anything?” I ask before climbing into bed.

Charlotte’s intense stare catches my attention.

“You.”

A half-laugh escapes me. “Funny, you’re off-limits.”

I climb into bed, getting myself comfortable. Then, Charlotte places her hand on my thigh, sliding it up between my legs.

“You’re not off-limits,” she teases.

My head tilts with curiosity. “That’s true, but don’t you think you should be resting since you just had a baby?”

“It’s the hormones,” she blurts out. “It’s confusing.”

I scratch my jaw with a smirk playing on my lips. “So, you’re horny but obviously out for the next six weeks. If I understand this correctly, you want to blow me because that’s all you can do right now?”

Charlotte rests her hand on my cock, which instantly goes hard.

“Yeah, you got a problem with that, Mr. Edwards?”

My hands reach for the top of my boxers, yanking them down to free my cock.

“Not a single problem at all…”

FIFTEEN

The time when the universe had other plans

“Will you stop worrying about it? This is not for you to get involved.”

Charlotte stares blankly at the suitcases on the bed. She’s usually organized and packed well before any trip, taking charge of everyone’s items with some fancy app she uses to make sure everything is ticked off and nothing is left behind.

“They’re family,” she reminds me with a heavy sigh. “I don’t understand how it doesn’t bother you at all that we’re flying all the way to Sydney, Australia, just to celebrate Rocky’s birthday, and we’re leaving Nikki behind.”

I pinch the bridge of my nose. This is all we’ve been discussing for months. No matter what I say, the answer won’t satisfy her or fix the problem.

Mainly because it’s notourproblem to fix.

“We’re not leaving her behind. Nikki chose not to come given their circumstances.”

Much to my annoyance, Charlotte plonks herself on the bed and stops packing. It’s obvious we’re going to continue talking about this. Mindful of the time, I give Charlotte my attention but keep note of how long until we need to leave.

“I don’t understand how this happened.”

I sit beside her, resting my arms on my legs, then begin to rub my face. My mouth opens to speak, but then it closes. Rocky and Nikki’s separation wasn’t a surprise to me, they’d been butting heads for a long time. The last year was strained, given Rocky accepted a new job at a big network and Nikki was taking on more clients since the firm grew so much on the East Coast.

Nikki is known to keep her emotions to herself, always putting on a brave front, especially in front of Charlotte. Unlike Rocky, too many drunken rants, and when he’s on a roll, he will tell you every last detail, from what they argued over to who showered the longest.

Given they lived on the East Coast, it wasn’t like we saw them all the time. The distance was often welcoming when it came to those two. It’s difficult being in the same space as two people who have no issue arguing in front of you.
