“Well.” He grinned and stepped inside, putting his hands in his pockets. “A kiss is when two people put their lips together and…”

I held up my hand, trying, and failing miserably, to stop my laughter. “You know what I mean.”

He lifted his shoulders. “Yeah, I know. Sorry, I was trying to lighten the situation. But we need to talk about this.”

“I know.” I sighed.

“Maybe, um… maybe we could go for a drink. You know, to get to know each other a little more?”

Woah, did he just ask me out on a date? Were we really going to talk about this? Did I want to fall down the rabbit hole, commonly known as dating, again?

He moved closer and took my hand in his. “I understand this is weird.”

“You’ve got that right. This is beyond weird.” I let out a nervous laugh.

“I just think we need to talk, especially as we’re here nearly every day in close contact.”

Close contact. Hell, yes, it was close. I could still feel his erection pressing against my belly. It had been a long time since I’d experienced that kind of contact. And honestly, it felt good.

“Sure. That would be great. When did you have in mind?”

“Tomorrow? Or is that too soon?”

“No, tomorrow’s fine.”

He moved closer until I was pressed against the edge of my workbench. Placing his hands either side of me, he lowered his head until our lips were touching. I was shaking so much I thought the shed would fall down. Luke laid a soft kiss on my mouth then moved away. A small grumble of protest left my lips.

He stroked my cheek and whispered, “I think that’s enough passion for one day, Red.” He kissed my cheek and left.

I slumped against the bench, my breathing uneven. Had he just called me Red? For the first time, I didn’t mind at all. It sounded sexy if I was honest.

Oh, help. I was in deep trouble.

Luke

I’d really gone and done it now. Asking the woman who was, until recently, my enemy out on a date after kissing the life out of her. But I wanted to get to know this enigma better. She was on my mind most of the time now. It got me thinking that maybe some guy had hurt her in the past and that was why she was so angry when we’d first met. Keeping her distance to protect herself. She hadn’t even protested when I’d called her Red. I’d seen the way her pupils had dilated.

“Are you okay, Luke? You’re awfully quiet.”

I was on my way to pick up Fliss and Dolly. I was so lost in my thoughts, I’d forgotten I had Toby in the car.

“Sorry, Toby. Just overthinking things.”

Toby chuckled. “Me too. What a pair we make. Women, eh?”

We’d pulled up outside Dolly’s home.

“What do you mean?”

He tapped the side of his nose. “You know exactly what I mean.”

I was about to respond when the front door opened. Fliss stood there wearing tight jeans, and a denim jacket with a lowcut, tight purple t-shirt underneath. Not the sort of top Stella wore with her tits hanging out; this was subtle, but still sexy. My dick was on the move again. Not now. Please, not now.

We got out and headed up the path. I so wanted to kiss her but knew now wasn’t the time. She moved to the side, and I let my hand briefly touch hers before moving past her.

“Hi, you look hot,” I murmured as I gave her a sneaky onceover, happy when she blushed.
