She turned to face me. “I will come back with you, see what this is. But I need two things.”
“Anything!”
“I need you to give me the money that I have worked for so far, because I have to get my brother into rehab.”
“Done!” That was almost too easy, I thought. “What is the second thing?”
“I want you to lose something. Anything. But it must be something that means something to you.”
She looked at me, an expression in her eyes I had never seen before.
“Think about it and let me know if you can do it.”
She turned away from me and walked back up the house. I stared after her, completely blown away.
