For answer he simply swept her up into his arms, carrying her to his sports car, just down the street. He couldn’t wait for the valet to drive it up.

Her gurgling laugh caressed like warm satin, drawing nerves to the verge of breaking point. Adoni ignored the sea of faces turned towards them and within seconds they were in the car, peeling away into the traffic.

Neither said a word as he drove. Adoni was hyper-aware of Alice’s every movement. Of her quickened breathing and the slide of her dress as she crossed her legs, then uncrossed them. Either she was as turned-on as he was or she was intent on driving him crazy. With every restless movement he imagined her bare leg sliding against him, up over his hip and—

‘We’re here.’ He swung through the electric gates and up, past cypresses and colourful oleanders lining the driveway, into the garage beneath his high-set home.

Adoni switched the engine off, the only sound the tick-tick of the motor and the thud of his pulse. He drew a deep breath, willing his body to relax, but it was impossible. He was too wound-up. Clicking the remote control to shut the garage door behind them, he got out and went round to the passenger side, helping her out.

‘Thank you, Adoni. I had a lovely evening.’

Her hand was small in his, her eyes bright with sapphire depths. She stood so close her breasts teased his torso. The light imprint of her body fuelled the fire burning within.

‘It’s not over yet.’ He pulled her wrists up and over his shoulders, gripping her waist, marvelling at how perfectly its seductive curve fitted his palms. Adoni tugged and she came willingly, leaning up on her toes and planting those lush lips against his mouth.

Adoni groaned and lashed his arms round her, accepting her invitation and driving down with his tongue, plundering the velvety heat of her mouth. She tasted so impossibly good. Alice arched, supple yet taut, and a rolling wave of lust engulfed him. At this rate it would be a miracle if they made it upstairs to a bedroom.

Her fingers channelled through the hair at the back of his scalp, sending trails of flame racing down his spine then circling round to his groin.

‘Alice.’ He groaned it against her mouth, desperation rising. He closed his eyes, inhaling orange blossom, motor oil and musky pheromones.

He shuddered and dragged his mouth from hers. ‘We need a bed.’

Air filled his starved lungs as he snapped his eyes open and made himself step back. But he kept her prisoner with his hands. It would take a moment before he found the strength to let her go.

Heavy-lidded eyes met his. Her mouth, always outrageously seductive, was a reddened pout, ripe from his kisses. His fingers tightened.

‘I can’t wait that long.’

Adoni’s clothes felt far too tight, restricting. It took everything he had not to move. He shook his head, the movement straining already taut muscles. ‘Don’t say that or I’ll forget about behaving like a civilised man and take you here, in the garage.’

She blinked, her pupils dilating, drawing his fascinated gaze. ‘I don’t feel very civilised, Adoni.’ Her voice grew husky on his name, turning it into a caress. ‘I’ve wanted you all night and...’

He lifted her off the floor and up against his hardness, his gaze sweeping the long garage.There. Just metres away—a work bench against the wall.

Adoni had just enough control to check the surface—like everything else in the property it was pristine—before he lowered her onto it. Instantly, gratifyingly, she opened her knees and he stepped in, tucked hard between her splayed thighs.

‘Yes!’ Her head fell back against the wall as he ground himself against her.

Adoni lifted his hand to stroke the perfect pale arch of her throat, stunned at how erotic it was and how his hand shook. What was it about Alice that turned him on so hard and fast? The fact he’d planted his baby inside her? Yes. No. It was more than that.

There was no time to solve that riddle now. Her hands were on his belt as he shoved her floaty skirt up her bare legs. He tugged her hard against him.

She moaned and he bent, nipping at that sensitive spot where her neck curved down to her shoulder. She moaned again, ripping his trousers undone while he slipped his hand between her legs. She shuddered as he tore her panties aside and stroked her.

‘No!’ Her hand clamped his wrist. ‘I wantyou,’ she said. ‘Just you.’

Adoni worked on autopilot. He wasn’t conscious of anything but the expression on her face and his desperation to give her—give them both—what they needed.

He’d never been so aroused. So when he thrust, slow and sure, right to the core of her, it was no surprise when that glorious slide ended in ripples of pleasure. They grew into shudders of ecstasy, engulfing them and sending them spinning towards the stars.

Later—much later—they made it to his bedroom. Again they came together in a glorious conflagration that wrung them out and made a mockery of Adoni’s belief that he knew the full measure of physical ecstasy.

Now he lay in bed with Alice curled up against him, her leg across his hips, her soft little belly, where their baby rested, pressed into his side.

Adoni just had the strength to stroke the dark tresses spilling over her shoulders.

In the distance Athens hummed, the cityscape visible through the wide windows. But his mind wasn’t on the floodlit Acropolis or the network of streets. It was on the woman in his arms. And the future.
