“Yeah.” I shrug. “At least he broke up with me first and didn’t cheat.”

“Bullshit. He did that to hurt you. He’s an asshole.”

“I’m not going to deny that, but the breakup has affected him.”

On the ride back to campus, I tell her about Zac calling me up.

“Oh, wow. I honestly don’t know what to think,” Robyn says.

“Join the club.”

The next morning, I leave my dorm, ready to tackle a new day. I had sent Zac a text last night, asking him how Rob was, but he didn’t respond. I’m not quite sure what to think of that.

I take all of two steps when someone heads my way from a tree.

Rob.

“Well, well, well, who do we have here?” he asks.

“You were waiting for me?” I ask.

“Maybe I was. Maybe I wanted to see how depressed you are because we aren’t together.”

I roll my eyes. “Rob, grow up. I’m fine. I can handle myself, and I’m not in that terrible of a place.”

“No? What if I told you I can now tell you who was the best lay I ever had?”

“Cherise?” I guess.

He blinks a few times. “How did you know?”

“Maybe because she told me all about your evening together.”

Rob’s face turns purple. “She told you?”

“Maybe she did. Maybe she didn’t. It’s fine. You’re a grown-up. You can do what you want with your cock. It’s yours, after all. I’m just going to do my own thing, okay? I still want to be friends with the other guys—”

“They want nothing to do with you, and you should stop texting Zac.”

I snort. “Seriously? You can’t control me, and you can’t control them either. Don’t be so juvenile.”

“You said it wasn’t safe. Something wasn’t safe. What wasn’t safe?”

I tilt my head. “Goodbye, Rob.”

He falls into step beside me. Of course he does.

“Why won’t you tell me?” he presses.

“You’re going to be an ass but still think I should talk to you? I don’t think so.”

"I can't get that phrase out of my head. It was when you were talking about your parents, right? Your father?"

“Rob, give it up. If you wanted to know, you should’ve made that clear then. Instead, you were very clear that you only think with one head, and it’s not the one attached to your shoulders.”

“Neck.”
