“But you want to play hard too.”
"I suppose that's one way of putting it." Zac motions to the side of the house. "Let me show you around the outside before we head on inside."
“You’re the boss.”
Zac points out a small koi pond. “I haven’t done much at all with it. It was here when I bought the place.”
“Tiny fishes. Actually, the fish is bigger than I thought it would be.”
He chuckles. “I thought the same thing.”
“So much greenery.”
“It rains a lot. I have to come by once a week to mow it.”
“That must get old.”
“I don’t mind. I can’t say I enjoy mowing, but it does give me time to think.”
“My little introvert,” I tease.
Zac eyes me and shakes his head, his lips curling slightly. “No. Not at all. I talk too much to be an introvert.”
"Ah, but introvert, extrovert… they're more terms for how you recharge versus how social you are. Even introverts can talk a lot around their people. Introverts need alone time to recharge, whereas extroverts need personal interactions."
“There are times when I can recharge with either.”
“Then you’re an ambivert.”
“As I said, I’m not an introvert.” He knocks his shoulder into mine and guides me to the back. “A lot of land. It would be nice to have a patio or a deck built.”
“Does your aunt still give you money?”
“I’m sure she would if I asked her,” he says in a tone that suggests he’ll never ask her for money again. “I don’t like to rely on others.”
“Too many times, they disappoint you.”
“Exactly.”
I want to say something about how I hope I haven’t disappointed him yet, but I know that’s not true. I have disappointed him, all of the guys too, by ghosting them. I hadn’t meant to hurt them, but I did.
“I’m sorry,” I murmur.
"For what?" he asks as we complete the circle around the house to the front door. He unlocks it, but neither of us heads inside just yet.
“For ghosting you.”
“I know why you did it.”
“You do?”
He nods, and the look he gives me is enough to make my heart skip a beat. He’s handsome, yes, but there’s a quiet intensity about him that lets me know that when he’s in, he’sallin.
“Are you ready for the grand tour?” he asks.
“Actually, I have a question first, if you don’t mind.”
“Go ahead.”
