“You’re hot when you’re all assertive and shit,” he mumbles in my ear, his lips brushing against my skin.

I sigh, wishing I could feel his hot mouth all over me. “I only have to tell him off occasionally, but I always hate doing it.

He leans back to look at me. “He’s a great kid, Melody, and you’re a great mom.”

“Thanks.”

He wriggles his eyebrows. “Time for you to get in the pool. I’ve been looking forward to seeing you in a swimsuit.”

I laugh. “Have you?” He nods. “Well, the feeling’s mutual.”

I press my lips to his, and he hesitates for a second before kissing me back. I wind my arms around his neck and lose myself in him. When he pulls back, we’re both panting.

“I assumed you wanted to take things slowly around Roman,” he says. “Not that I’m complaining. I love that I get to kiss you whenever I want.”

I tangle my fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck and smile. “I figured I’ve known you since I was twelve, so it’s not like we’ve just met.”

He chuckles. “I like your logic.”

He lowers his head and kisses me again. When a cold, wet hand touches my leg, I gasp into Lucas’s mouth and step back. Looking down, I see Roman watching us.

“Why are you kissing?” he asks, his face screwed up in disgust.

Lucas lets go of me and reaches down, scooping Roman up, not caring that he’s soaking wet.

“Because I like your mommy a lot. Is that okay?”

He shrugs. “I guess. Do you like me too?”

Lucas smiles. “Yeah, buddy. I like you too.”

“Can you come in the pool now?” he asks, seemingly happy with that response.

“Sure. Let me teach you how to do water bombs.”

I watch as Lucas pulls off his t-shirt and tosses it onto one of the loungers. My eyes track all over him as he jumps in the pool with Roman. He’s sexy, caring, and seems to adore my little boy. I’m not sure how I ever got so lucky.
