“Amnesia”—MODSUN

“So, let me get this straight…. There’s a toddler named Parker that belongs to Voodoo and Kira, precious little Kristin there, Angel and Korrie have Angeline, Jasmine and Nico’s baby is coming soon, and you think you’re pregnant again?” I asked Loralei with my eyes about to pop out.

“Pretty much,” Loralei nodded and giggled.

She had just finished feeding Kristin and was burping her. Jasmine and I had sat on the edge of the bed so she could use the office chair to feed her daughter. I’d been pleasantly surprised at how normal and down-to-earth the women were. I would’ve thought they’d be different. I’d watched that biker show everyone raved about when I was bored in my hotel room. These women were the farthest thing from the biker chicks I’d seen on there.

“Is there something in the water here?” I incredulously gaped at the two women. “‘Cuz that’s a lot of babies in a short period of time.”

“No, that’s just what you get when you have a bunch of alpha males and their super sperm.” Jasmine chortled through her explanation. I couldn’t help but join her.

Kristin let out a burp that echoed in the room, and we laughed again.

The longing in my heart made it hurt to breathe. Would I ever have the opportunity to have children? Over the past few months, I’d often wondered if I had children somewhere that were missing their mother. I didn’t have stretch marks, but that didn’t mean anything.

For the past hour or more, I hadn’t thought about my seemingly nonexistent life before my abduction. It had been nice while it lasted.

The knock on the door made me jump, and Jasmine reached out to place a reassuring hand over mine. Our eyes met, and she gave me a small, supportive smile. I appreciated that she didn’t point out how jumpy I’d been for no reason.

“Go away!” Loralei called out with a mischievous grin.

“I need to talk to Soleil,” I heard Sabre call through the door. Crazy that I recognized his voice already.

Both women looked at me for my response.

“Are you okay with that?” Jasmine softly asked me with a cock of her head.

I swallowed hard. “Yeah, it’s fine,” I finally whispered as my heart rattled wildly in my chest.

Jasmine gave my hand another comforting squeeze. “Sabre’s a good guy. I trust him.”

When I returned her smile, she hefted herself off the edge of the bed and waddled to the door. Her dark, silky hair hung like an ebony curtain down her back. It swung softly when she turned the knob and stepped back.

My gaze fell on Sabre, and a nervous flutter started in my stomach. His quicksilver eyes caught mine over Jasmine’s shoulder. “Venom wants her to come down. He wants to discuss a job, and uh, well, Chains is going to try to help with her situation.”

At Jasmine’s gasp, my attention jumped from the tall, gorgeous man in the doorway to the woman I hoped might become a friend. She appeared shocked. A quick glance at Loralei showed the same. I didn’t understand what that meant.

“He’s willing to do that?” Jasmine asked in a low voice that conveyed disbelief. The exchange left me confused.

“He offered,” Sabre clarified.

“Um, what exactly is Chains going to help with?” I stepped up and asked.

“Chains is a talented um, hypnotherapist,” Sabre began. The girls both made almost choking sounds. He glared at them a moment, then settled his heated sterling gaze on me. “He’s had some luck in regression, and he’s willing to see if he can help with your past.”

“Really?” I was suddenly all ears. My heart beat with hope, though I tried to tell it this was a long shot.

“Let’s go,” he mumbled, and I could tell he was trying not to look at me. The man was baffling. One minute he stared at me like he wanted to eat me alive, then the next he couldn’t make eye contact. I made a note to ask the girls if that was weird behavior for him.

Not wanting to waste any time, I quickly followed him. It was impossible not to stare at the man as he descended the stairs in front of me. His corded muscles rippled under the taut, tanned skin of his arms. His T-shirt sleeves strained at the tops of his biceps. He wasn’t a bulky or awkward looking guy. He was all animal grace and exuded a sense of tightly leashed power. As if at the slightest provocation, he would snap and rain havoc down on those who threatened him.

And I’m not sure what kind of woman I was before my abduction and memory loss, but the way that denim hugged his ass should be illegal. It took everything in me not to jump on him with each step. As if he heard my thoughts, he cast a startled glance over his shoulder before facing front again. My face heated over where my mind had gone, and I prayed I hadn’t muttered any of that out loud.

At the base of the stairs, we went into the hallway I’d seen him disappear into earlier. We took a left and went to the end of the corridor. I followed him into a large room that had a huge table in the center. The men I’d seen outside plus more all surrounded it, and every eye was on me. A shudder shot through me at the eerie wave of almost… electricity… that hit me.

One by one, I scanned them and made note of the names on their leather vests.

“Soleil, thank you for coming down. Have a seat.” Venom motioned to a chair against the wall. Guess I wasn’t one of the knights of the round table. Wherever that thought had come from…. I shook my head to clear it.
