Not once did he change his pace, but his breathing grew more labored, and his pulse beat wildly in his neck. He didn’t say a word, but I knew. He was going to lose control. The euphoria from having the power to bring a man like him to his knees was intoxicating. So much so that before I knew it, I was drunk on him and on the verge of shattering into a mindless, blissful, weightless bunch of molecules.

When he plunged deep one last time, and the muscles on his broad back bunched and tensed, I fell apart. Together, we breathed each other in as we lost ourselves in a pleasure like nothing I’d ever experienced before. During those rapturous moments, we were one being—rejoicing in finally being made whole again.

It was only then that I realized I hadn’t fallen immediately in love with him. I’d always been in love with him; we simply hadn’t found each other yet in this life.

The outside world eventually intruded into our blissful bubble as we held each other on the hard floor of the break room. Half-dressed, we had been impulsive and reckless.

And it was wonderful.

“While I’d love to be inside you all fucking day, I think your mom and Niara might appreciate being able to get back here for the bathroom. And maybe their coats and purses when they’re ready to leave.” His chuckle shook his body, and I whimpered at the loss of that connection.

“Ugh, they could’ve just gone next door,” I grumpily huffed.

His laughter burst out, and I reveled in the sound.

“I promise we can do it again tonight. Right now, we need to make a quick run down the street to pick something up,” he said as he tucked himself away.

As I watched, I pouted.

He stood and went into the bathroom, shaking his head at me the entire time. He came back with several damp paper towels. Then this big, tough biker gently cleaned me up, and my heart swelled to bursting.

Once he was done, he tossed the soiled paper towels in the trash and held his hand out to help me up. As his callused fingers held mine securely, he teasingly tugged me to his firm body, and I couldn’t help the fluttering that filled me.

Gently, he reached up to remove the clip that had been holding my hair up. While it was a mess, I didn’t mind. He smoothed the stray strands back from my face, then finger-combed through the tangled length.

“You are so fucking beautiful,” he murmured, causing a sleepy, satisfied smile to curve my lips as I tipped my head back to look up at him. He dipped to steal a kiss that ended way too soon.

“Thank you.” I practically sighed my words of gratitude.

“Not a problem,” he tossed back with a smirk. Then he swatted my ass, pulling me abruptly from my satiated haze.

“Hey!” I barked out with an exaggerated frown.

“You love it and you know it,” he whispered before he stole another kiss. Okay, maybe there was no stealing because I would happily offer up my every kiss to him. “Now, let’s go tell your mom we’ll be right back.”

“Um, can I have my panties, please?”

“Nope.”

My jaw dropped and I blinked at him.

He started to drag me to the door, but I sputtered, “You’re serious, aren’t you?”

“Yep.”

He unlocked the door, and we went out into the shop. There were several customers browsing and filling their wicker shopping baskets. I was sure they were the only reason my mom and Niara stood behind the counter gloating instead of running their mouths. Niara leaned on the counter with her chin resting on her hand.

“Feel better?” she asked, tongue in cheek.

“So much so that I don’t even care that you know,” I airily replied, but I hoped no one could tell I was commando under my long skirt. I couldn’t hold back the goofy grin that spread across my face. “Will you be okay while we run out for a bit?”

My mother rolled her eyes. “Child, it wasn’t even your day to work. You’re the one who insisted on coming in to unpack our shipment today. Get out of here.” With a soft smile, she shooed me away.

She was right. I had. It had been better than sitting at home alone wallowing in my misery. Still, I rolled my eyes right back at her and laughed.

Holding my hand securely in his, Phoenix guided me out of the shop after we said our goodbyes. The afternoon sun was warm on my cheeks as we walked down the sidewalk. The silence between us wasn’t awkward or uncomfortable; it was perfect and peaceful.

“We can walk to CVS, but it’s quite a few blocks away. What do you want to do? I didn’t bring my car because I rode in with my mom,” I explained.
