FOR SOME REASON, ASHER looks hotter than usual in the light gray suit he chose to wear today. The tie hanging from his neck looks like it would be perfect to tie me up with. He’s clearly the type to do something like that, especially after Friday night. Feeling his hand wrapped around my throat—threatening the ability to cut off my air supply with the slightest squeeze—it was so goddamn hot.

My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I pull it out to see a text from Asher.

Asher: Stop eye-fucking me and do your work. And for the love of God, take the pen out of your mouth. This isn’t exactly a great place to have a boner.

I chuckle quietly as I type my response.

Tessa: Maybe I would if you’d actually fuck me.

He reads my reply but doesn’t answer, and I keep chewing and sucking on the end of my pen just to mess with him. I may have gotten something out of him, but it still isn’t what I want. And hey, at least it’s not a lollipop. That one was cruel.

AS SOON AS THE bell rings, everyone jumps up. It’s like they think the classroom is diseased and they need to get out as soon as possible. In actuality, the only place they’re going is their next class, so what’s the rush?

“Tessa, a word?” Asher asks.

I smile at Lennon as she leaves with the rest of our friends, and head over to his desk. The time between when his first class leaves and the next one comes in is short.

“Who were those two guys you were with this morning?”

My eyes instinctively peer out the window and I realize he probably could have seen us from his desk.

“Zayn and Easton,” I answer. “Zayn is a friend, and Easton…well, Easton is my ex.”

His jaw ticks and he gets that possessively jealous look on his face. Instead of waiting for him to answer, I step a little bit closer until I’m directly in front of him.

“Hey, no. It’s not even like that. I don’t want him. This”—I gesture between us—“is exactly what I need right now.”

He shoots me a disbelieving look. “Even though I won’t sleep with you?”

I bite my lip and let my eyes rake over him. “Having to work a little for it never killed anybody. Besides, keeps it interesting.”

That manages to get a laugh out of him, and his demeanor relaxes. “There’s no practice today. Are you coming over?”

“Is that even a question? An extra three hours of being teased and tortured? Why would I subject myself to that?”

He smiles. “So, you’ll meet me at my place?”

“Of course.” I wink, turning on my heels and leaving just in time for his next students to filter in.

AS I WALK OUT of the school, after what ended up being a rather irritating day, the only thing I can think of is getting to Asher’s and throwing all my pent-up frustration into a steamy make-out session. Unfortunately, as I push through the doors, I realize life has other plans for me. Standing at the bottom of the steps is none other than Easton, and this time, he’s alone.

“You know, most people graduate and make it their mission to stay as far away from high school as possible.”

He snickers and shakes his head. “Most people don’t have a reason to come back.”

/> “And you do?”

“I’m looking at it.”

Oh boy. I glance back at Asher’s window for a second but they’re one-way glass, meaning I wouldn’t know if he’s watching or not.

Pushing my hair out of my face, I focus on my ex. “What do you want, Easton?”

He raises his hands. “I just want to talk. Can we go somewhere?”

I don’t want to. There are actually a million things I would rather do, but I know Easton. He won’t stop trying until I hear him out, so I may as well get it over with.

“All right,” I say with a sigh. “Let me get my car and I’ll meet you at the lake.”
