“Nay,” I say a little harder than intended and she twitches at my tone. When she moves her head for the second time, her hair brushes my arm, the ends so soft that I don’t think I’ve felt anything finer in my life.

“Why not?” she says and there’s a look in her eyes like she wants to challenge me on this and I understand. She is young, she wants to have fun and she wants to move on. I’d grant her all of that but the festival is not the best place to start.

Sighing I reply, “Melody...I don’t think you’ll want to go. Some of the people show up in normal clothes but some of them wear costumes. And masks.”

She shudders and she’s not blinking anymore. “Masks?” Her eyes dart and I can hear the slight panic in her voice and I want to crush it until it never rears its ugly head again. “But...it’ll be the kind you buy in a regular costume shop? The fun ones?”

Indeed, the festival is a harmless activity. It’s a love letter to the town since lore goes that whoever comes here will never leave without meeting his or her fate. But despite its sentimentality, the festival could still be too overwhelming for Melody.

“I want to go,” she says, sounding like she means it. “I want you to take me. As long as you’re there, I won’t be scared, I promise.”

“Melody...” I say with hesitation, but she turns her face toward the TV.

“Great, I’m so happy it’s settled.”

I scowl but she pretends not to see. Shame. She should look at me because I want to grab that face in my hands and watch her eyes widen in lust when I kiss her.

She drops the pillow, she’s been holding, sighing when there’s a commercial break. “Don’t you just hate those?”

“Nay,” I reply, ”they fulfill a purpose.”

“Right, tricking people into buying stuff they don’t need.”

“Was not talking about that, love,” I rasp, tracing the back of my fingers up her short sleeved arm and she shudders. The skin on her is perfection, the bruises doing nothing to diminish the exquisiteness. She wets her lips with her tongue, inching her face only slightly in my direction but that’s all I need and I taste her mouth with mine.

Eagerness and melodiousness and strawberry ice cream that she had for dessert. That’s her flavor and I groan, the sound forcing her to open up her mouth to me and the second the tip of her tongue meets mine, it feels like my head is about to detonate.

Been wanting this so much, so much that I’m unable to hold back and I steal her breath, thrust and swirl into her mouth. I slightly open my eyes, watching her through hooded lids and her own eyes are closed and this is the most beautiful that I have ever seen her.

Her cheeks are flushed, her hands tracing my chest, then my arms, my back and when she goes lower down my stomach, I take more of her, tease then demand and she gives me all that I want and need but her hands don’t go lower than my abs.

Hell...if only those soft hands of hers would stroke my throbbing cock.

Instinctively I jut with my hips and she lets out a gasp into my mouth and I move my hand to her throat, stroking her pulse and it flutters under my thumb. Telling me that she’s warm and alive and mine.

My own pulse starts speeding even worse than hers when she slowly moves, pulling herself into my lap and she lets me rock and cradle her like I wanted from the moment that I saw her. Her scent is in my nose, her warmth reaching me everywhere, crawling into places deep inside of me that I thought were frozen.

But nothing can stay frozen when someone like her is here to make it all better again and fuck it was supposed to be the way around. I was supposed to be there for her, help her heal but instead she is the one healing me.

When our mouths reluctantly withdraw, our eyes are still watchful and she might be a good girl but her eyes belong on a pretty, little rogue. My hands are still stroking her, going from her waist up to her chest and her mouth drops,

“Cal?” she whispers and I raise my brows but she doesn’t go any further than that. She throws a look over her shoulder. “I don’t think I have it in me to watch the whole movie.”

I forgot the movie was one, forgot even what we were watching and I turn the TV off, causing darkness to flare in the room and Melody lets out a whimper, pressing her body against mine and I curse.

She’s scared of the dark and my hand shoots out, turning on a lamp and she slowly relaxes. Stroking her hair away from her forehead, I murmur,

“I’m sorry.”

“No...I just wasn’t prepared,” she whispers, before her eyes flare to mine. “Can I...?” she stutters, looking too shy to ask but I think I know what she wants and it’s what I want too.

“Do you want to sleep in my room tonight?”

Melody nods and I pull both of us up. “Then let’s go get ready for bed.” My heart is thrashing in my chest as we make our way to the second floor. She wants to sleep in my bed. Right next to me and look up on a face that most people would rather pretend they’d never seen.

But Melody doesn’t cower, she doesn’t shy away from me but instead she seems to crave me. It’s enough to make me feel like the wounds aren’t even there in the first place, like she’s erasing all the bad they stand for.

“I will just go change,” she breathes and I nod, walking into my bedroom and I strip down to my briefs, before laying down in bed because I doubt Melody will appreciate it if I stand in the middle of the room, waiting for her with an uncontrolled erection.
