Definitely yes. Because, when she was seventy, she didn’t want to regret not having a Christmas caper with one of the hottest men she’d ever encountered. She wanted this one night and tomorrow she’d shore up her defenses and play it safe.

Tonight, she just wanted him.

“Yeah, I’m sure. Now, are you coming or not? Or do you still have a headache?”

Hunt’s laughter was low and wicked, and oh-so-sexy. “Like I’d use that feeble excuse. As for coming, I intend to, but only after you are two or three ahead of me.”

Adie grinned at his quick wit until she saw that, under the joke, he was very serious. Yowzer, two or three? Holy hell.

“I’ll settle for just one, Sheridan.”

“I won’t,” Hunt told her, placing his hands on her hips and lifting her so that her eyes were at the same height as his. “With my fingers and my tongue, then again when I’m deep inside you.”

Adie swallowed, sighed and placed her mouth against his. She let him carry her to the bedroom, anxious to get started.

Seven

Sex was the last thing he’d expected tonight, but since he was a guy—a guy who’d fiercely wanted this woman from the moment he first laid eyes on her—he’d take it.

He wasn’t an idiot.

Easily carrying Adie through to what used to be his bedroom, Hunt feasted on her mouth, relying on muscle memory to get them to where they wanted to be. Habit had him kicking the door closed and he allowed Adie to slide down his body to stand on the floor.

He cradled her lovely face in his hands, wondering if he should ask again if she was sure this was what she wanted. But he could see the desire in her eyes, the flush of excitement on her cheekbones, on her neck. Using one finger, he pulled the material of her collar away from her neck and saw her pink-tinged creamy skin. When she closed her eyes, obviously enjoying his touch, he swallowed down the need to reassure himself.

This was something they’d been heading toward for the past ten days, it was inevitable. And in the morning, they’d be as they were before...

She didn’t want more, neither did he. She’d confessed to being the type who felt too deeply, who got carried away, but that was when she was younger. She was older now and he’d keep them on even ground—he never lost his head and he wouldn’t start now.

They were colleagues, friends having sex, they didn’t need to complicate the hell out of this situation.

Then why did he feel a little nervous, like he was taking a step off a high cliff into a churning pool of dark seawater? He’d had lots of sex before. He knew what he was doing...

But making love to Adie would be different. That unwelcome knowledge had him hesitating.

What price would he have to pay for indulging in his need for her? What would he lose? He didn’t know and Hunt didn’t like taking a risk without knowing all the possible outcomes.

Adie’s small hand came up to hold his cheek. “Hunt? Everything okay?”

Hunt blinked and shook his head. He focused on her suddenly hesitant expression. “Um, if you’ve changed your mind, that’s okay. No hard feelings,” she told him.

He hadn’t changed his mind; he couldn’t. “Only the world ending, and you telling me to stop, would make me walk away, sweetheart.”

Relief jumped into her eyes. “Oh. Then why are you just standing there, not touching or kissing me?”

Now that was a damn good question and something he intended to rectify immediately.

Not having an answer, Hunt lowered his head to hers, tasting her lush, sexy lips. Adie arched her back and wound her arms around his neck, lifting her hips and moving closer to push her stomach into his erection.

Needing to taste her fully, needing everything, Hunt placed both hands on her breasts, immediately noticing how her nipples hardened in response. Finding them with his fingers, he took advantage of her sigh to push his tongue into her mouth, tasting the red wine she’d been drinking.

For a moment, the world stopped turning. They were the only two people on earth and their passion not only ignited but detonated, sending spikes of lust scampering along every neural pathway in his body.

He wanted her, more than he’d wanted anyone or anything before.

Needing to see her, wanting to know whether his imagination came anywhere close to reality, Hunt lifted her pajama top up and over her head and pushed her bottoms over her hips. The fabric pooled at her feet as Hunt looked down, sucking in a harsh breath at her gorgeous, naked body.

She was pale, but her skin was lush, as if she were covered in a layer of clotted cream. Her breasts were small but firm, her nipples the rich pink of a pomegranate. Her stomach was flat, her belly button delightful and the small patch of hair between her legs was darker than the hair on her head. Her long, shapely, runners’ legs were a delight.
