“Ever knock, Hue?” She frowned cutely.

“Door’s open, Nordskov. That means come in.” He tossed the chip bags on the table.

“That’s at my mom’s house. And her driveway is a mile long, so she knows you are coming before you barge into her house.” Her words sounded distracted by the end as she looked through the chip selection with interest. Might be the reason he always brought at least four kinds. As far as he could tell, she always picked a different kind—never the same old chips for Mandy.

“A Nordskov house is a Nordskov house.” He put the beer in the fridge. Looking at what she had in there, he pulled out a bottle of water. “Fancy water, Nordskov? Are you getting snooty on me?”

“I need to drink more water, and you do too.” She had opened a bag of chips and added some to her plate.

“Is that from my friend or my doctor?” He sat across from her. She was wearing her glasses today. Usually, she wore contacts, but some days she didn’t bother with them. They made her look smarter and hotter.

“I am not a doctor. And I have never seen you in my office.” She grinned.

“That’s because I don’t want to stand in front of you naked in your sterile clinic.” He opened his beer.

“I don’t make people just strip naked, Hue.” She pointed a chip at him as she spoke, ate the chip, then added, “They always are offered a gown,”

“I am not taking my chances.” He swiped her half-eaten sandwich and took a bite—turkey and cheese—then put it back on her plate. She glared at him for that move. “Have you seen the baby?”

She picked up the sandwich he had just bitten into and went back to eating it. “Yes, good baby check-up on Friday. She is doing great. No issues.”

“Did you hold her?” he asked.

“Yes, it’s my job. I’m fine, Hue. It was just that day. It was too much.” He didn’t believe her for a moment.

“If you’re so okay, why didn’t you go out there today to see the baby? Or yesterday?” He took a chip off her plate and ate it.

“I worked half a day yesterday, and today I need some me time.” She pulled her plate a little closer to her, or a little further from him.

“I’m here,” he pointed out.

“I didn’t invite you.” She again pointed a new chip at him and ate it.

“Your door was unlocked,” he reminded her, pointing to it behind him.

“I didn’t realize you had free access to my place when unlocked. I will have to make a point of locking it at night, so I don’t end up with you in my bed.” She took a bite of her sandwich, but her cheeks turned crimson at her words.

If only that was all it took. He would love to just climb into her bed one night. Any night. Sadly, he would do it every night if he had the chance. “Is that an invitation, Nordskov?” He winked at her.

With a roll of her eyes, she got up and took her now empty plate to the kitchen and put it in the sink. Today she was wearing Christmas green leggings and some kind of white sweater that was long enough to cover her butt from view.

Since she was not going to answer his question, he grabbed the chips to bring them to the living room. “You will need to change, lady.”

She looked down at her outfit. “What? Why?”

“We can’t have you wearing Packer colors. The home team will think you’re not on our side.” He looked down at her outfit.

“I think the home team will be okay. I don’t want to change.” She walked to the couch.

“You underestimate the home team. I know you have purple somewhere in this house.” He put up his hands to block her from being able to sit down on the couch.

“Really? How many times have you seen me wear purple?” She threw up her hands.

“Nothing?” he questioned.

“No, I’m not that much of a fan.” Her eyes went to the jersey he was wearing, and yes, he was that big of a fan.

“No wonder we never win the Super Bowl, Nordskov.”
