I was a little worried about you, so didn’t sleep very well. I’ve been checking the news.
Oh babe, thank you, but we are okay.
We?
Crap. Collective ‘we.’
Who is he? Spill.
Harper grinned. She wasn’t ready to tell anyone about Daniel yet. Even her best friend.
He was complicated and if it lasted more than tonight, she’d be lucky to even call it a holiday romance.
There was also the fact they would be in the same business meetings tomorrow and over the next few days, so Harper knew she had to separate the two things in her head.
There was a very strong chemistry between them that neither of them could deny. Well, except Daniel last night. It had surprised her. She thought he’d be the kind of man to just rip her clothes off and take what he wanted no matter who saw.
She did like that he hadn’t. Except for the dull ache between her legs that wouldn’t go away.
She squeezed her thighs together and rolled onto her tummy, propping the phone on the pillow.
God, she needed him soon, or she’d be self-servicing. Something she’d learned to do after David left.
Maybe a man like Daniel could show her things no previous lover had.
No one. Stop being a detective LOL. I have to jump in the shower and be a Hawaiian goddess now. Talk to you later.
I will break you down, Harper Kane. Go shag whoever he is all day long.
Harper burst into laughter as Daniel stepped back into the hallway. He looked at her in question and she grinned, taking the bottle of water from him, and slugging it down.
––––––––
A TEXT TO AKINO AND scroll through the news, and they learned the hurricane had moved away from the island.
Harper leaned over the lanai, the Hawaiian term for balcony, and they’d seen the carnage on the roads and beaches below them. Mostly it was fronds from the palm trees and rubbish, but there were also pieces of signage and a few other obvious bits of damage.
Many of the stores had used sandbags for protection, and the buzz as they cleaned up was easy to hear, even from the 45th floor.
Harper liked to think she was assisting Daniel in moving the mattress back inside the room, but in the end, he’d told her to let go and he’d pulled with force until it landed back on the base in her new bedroom.
It had been worth it to watch his muscles bunch and swell, and the sweat between his pecs.
Now, as Daniel stood and turned to her, she saw him recognize the look in her eyes.
Harper bit her lip
He stepped closer.
“Oh, no,” Harper said, stepping away. “I need to brush my teeth.”
“Harper, I spent all night kissing you.” Daniel frowned.
She turned to run to the bathroom but felt his arms around her. She squealed as his mouth landed on his. Suddenly she didn’t care about Colgate or toothbrushes or any damn thing. She melted into his embrace and moaned.
“God, I love hearing you make that sound,” he said against her lips and began to push the straps off her dress.
His mouth moved down her neck, pushing the dress down until he found her bare nipple.
