“Appreciate it, but you didn’t need to. I’m fine,” he said. “But Jesus—Nadia fucking Mackenzie. Ouch.”
Yeah, she was no Cinderella.
“So, what’s the plan?”
Daniel wasn’t telling anyone about Black Hawke Security so as not to incriminate others, so he focused on what they could do internally.
“Confidentially, prep Olivia on this engagement becoming a possibility. Get her to sign a non-disclosure despite her employment contract. I want her thoughts on all scenarios. Set up a call if she wants to run through things. Keep Dad out of it,” Daniel said, frowning. “We need this airtight from the board. The fewer people who know, the better.”
“Are Brent and Tony aware of this new development?” Fletcher asked, referring to Dufort’s corporate lawyer, and head of finance.
“No. All they know is Dad hasn’t been able to find a copy of the document in his personal files.
“Because we all thought Dad would find the original agreement.”
Daniel nodded. “Correct.”
“Can’t we get anyone to sign an affidavits saying they witnessed seeing the original?” Fletcher asked.
“Against a US senator? It would get messy and public.”
Fletcher signed. “Yeah, it would. God damn it.”
“I’m not marrying her,” Daniel said. “I have some other ideas on this, but for now, I need you and Olivia to be ready for the media if it comes to that.”
Fletcher nodded.
“So is everything going okay over there in paradise? You need anything from me? And have you met Harry yet?”
Daniel nodded and sat back in his chair, clasping his hands behind his head. “Yup. Good kid. He’s smart and has everything handled. I met the author, too.”
Why did he say that?
“Ah, what’s her name? Hannah someone?”
“Harper. Harper Kane.”
“Okay.” Fletcher stared at him, expecting him to add something more.
He pressed his lips together.
“Wait, is she hot?” Fletcher began tapping on his laptop. “Wow, fuck, she is hot. Damn.”
Daniel felt his jaw tense at the thought of Fletcher being here with Harper instead of him.
Would she like him?
Fletcher attracted women just as much as he did. He had these bright green eyes they couldn’t resist. So he’d been told. The more he imagined Fletcher with Harper, the tighter his jaw clenched.
“She’d eat you alive,” Daniel growled.
“She’d be most fucking welcome to,” Fletcher said, peering at the screen at her images.
“Would you stop that? She’s a business partner. Kind of.”
Fletcher’s eyes returned to his and narrowed as he grinned. “You like her?”
Daniel frowned.
