CHAPTER FIVE

No, no, no, no, no.

Harper was almost stomping her way to the beach after leaving the hotel.

One glance at the tall Adonis of a man in the hotel—who just happened to own the damn thing—and she knew the universe was messing with her.

He’d all but fucked her with his eyes.

No men.

No damn men.

Even gorgeous men with broad shoulders stretched underneath a very nice white shirt, which likely covered a delicious set of golden abs she’d love to run her fingers over.

Even then.

Mostly.

And god, those eyes. Ice blue like a wild ocean.

When Daniel Dufort had taken her hand in his, it had caused a cocktail of reactions through her body. Embarrassingly so.

Worse, she had stared at his hand, thinking of what those fingers could do to her body.

How dare he?

How dare he tempt her with that dark wavy hair, or square, masculine jaw? His calculating gaze told her he was a powerful man who got what he wanted.

Once she’d got closer, Harper had recognized who he was. She’d researched the family and business for her novels years ago. Without his fancy business suits and rich women on his arm, he’d looked different. Unfortunately for her, the photos hadn’t done him justice.

The truth was, Daniel Dufort was unreasonably gorgeous.

And knew it.

A man like him could have any woman he wanted. A man like him had every woman he wanted.

But he wouldn’t have her.

She’d seen the desire in his eyes, and his frustration when she’d hidden her interest.

Harper may be young and inexperienced when it came to men, but she knew people. She studied people. It helped her as an author, and perhaps because of her distrust in men, she looked just that little bit closer.

No, Daniel Dufort would not have her, and she was going to keep a large distance to ensure she stuck to that promise.

Hopefully, she’d only have to see him during the one meeting they had together with BookFlix in a few days’ time.

Why he was here, Harper had no idea. Daniel had stepped into the CEO role of Dufort Dynasty LLC two years ago, making him a very powerful and wealthy man. Surely, he had people to do this?

In fact, Harper was pretty sure his two brothers were more involved with the operational side of the business.

She flicked her towel out and lay it down on the sand.

“Trust me to catch the eye of a playboy billionaire,” she muttered to herself. “Right out of a damn novel.”

And he’d called her a damn Australian. How insulting. Perhaps she’d ask him where in Canada he grew up.

With an evil grin, she lay down and opened her steamy novel written by an author friend of hers.
