Was he the man she was supposed to love?
She could barely think with Cooper’s green eyes on hers, and his large body up against hers, just as a lover would. His hard bicep under her head wasn’t helping anything, either.
No man had ever gone out of his way to put together a romantic picnic for her before. Or hired a fancy car to impress her. Cooper had dropped his friends and put her first. He wasn’t just a man of words, he was following up with actions.
She was important to him.
Joy in the moment fought with sadness that she hadn’t even been worth a goodbye text from Daniel.
So, it was time to move on.
Cooper stared at her, intensity building in his eyes. Harper recognized his desire, his need, and the warmth that radiated off him. She had a sudden desire to place her hand on his chest and be closer to him.
“If you keep looking at me like that, you are going to make a liar out of me, Ms. Kane,” he said, a small smirk on his lips.
Nice lips.
Different lips to those last night.
Kind lips.
Truthful lips.
Suddenly Harper realized, yet again, she had not asked any questions. She sat up and did place a hand on his chest this time.
Cooper lifted his head. “What’s wrong?”
“Are you single?”
He flopped down and groaned.
“Well, are you?”
Cooper looked back at her. “Yes, Harper, I am single. No secret fiancée, girlfriends, lovers or wives anywhere.”
“Boyfriend?” she asked, then shrugged at his reaction. “What? I’m just covering all the bases.”
Next minute she was flat on her back with a larger than she’d realized Cooper over her.
“No one else. Full stop,” he said while her heart pounded. “Now, are you going to kiss me, Harper Kane, or are you going to make me break my promise?”
She nodded.
She had to do this. She wanted to do this. She wanted to kiss Cooper.
She liked him, and she needed to know if there were sparks. Maybe not like with Daniel, but he wasn’t hers anymore, and she was here with this amazing man.
Harper moved toward his mouth, but that was all she had to do. Cooper needed no more encouragement. His arms swooped under her and pulled her against his body, his mouth taking ownership of hers.
She flung her arms around his neck and opened to him. Warmth flowed through her as their bodies connected. His kiss was wanting, knowing, and demanding. After a time, Cooper’s lips moved across her cheek, to her jaw and down her neck.
“Fuck, I knew kissing you would be amazing,” Cooper said.
And it was a wonderful kiss. He felt like all the delicious characters she wrote about. Strong and perfect, charming, and protective. Sex with Cooper would be incredible, she had no doubt.
His mouth took hers again, and she melted into it, feeling the heat between them build. He groaned, then lifted his head and gazed down at her.
“Now I regret driving so far away from the hotel,” he said, and she smiled.
