“Desperate?”
“Yeah, my parents had died, and I’d not had a real boyfriend.” She pointed at her body. “Look at me. It’s not like any guy is going to go for me when they’ve got a hot, slender alternative.”
“Are you fucking shitting me right now?” he asked.
“Huh?”
“You’re telling me that the first guy you were with treated you like shit because of your size?”
“Now that you put it like that?”
“No, there’s no way to neatly put it. You fell for the first guy who fed you sweet words? You were a virgin?”
Grace shot him a glare. “That is a very private and personal question.”
“Fucking is all part of life. We all do it, unless you’re a nun, but whatever.”
“How old are you?”
“Thirty-nine, babe. You?”
“Wow, you’re so old. I’m twenty-five.”
Drake swerved the car to a stop, and glared at her. “Thirty-nine is not old. It’s experienced, and you’re trying to avoid the question.”
“It’s none of your business.”
“People fuck. It’s natural.”
“At the club yeah, but it’s not something normal people talk about.”
“Teri fucks at the club. Are you saying she’s not normal?”
“You’re trying to put words in my mouth, and that’s not fair,” Grace said, growling in frustration.
“You’re a prude. That’s your problem.”
“I’m not a prude.”
“Then tell me, were you a virgin?”
“None of your business.” She folded her arms and wished he would start the car up.
“It’s perfectly fine to be a prude. Your husband, when you get one, will probably stray, and when he does, you’ll be sitting at home wondering where he’s sticking his dick, and what he’s doing while you’re at home wonderi—”
“Yes! Dammit, I was a virgin, and Dwayne laughed afterward. It was the worst feeling in the world, and guess what? It hurt.” She shook her head. “God, what is wrong with you men? You think you’re all so damn good in bed, and it’s not the case. Slam, bam, thank you, and all that. It doesn’t work like that, and when he tried to have sex with me, it still hurt. The earth didn’t move. There was no great explosion, it was just pain.”
Silence fell on the car, and she groaned as she realized what she had told him.
“Ugh!” Releasing her seatbelt, she climbed out of the car, and started pacing back and forward. Her heart was racing, and she was so damn mad, she could spit.
She wasn’t surprised when Drake got out of the car, resting against it as she paced. “Are you happy about that?” she asked.
“Do I look like I am?”
Grace paused long enough to stare at him. “No, you don’t, and I’m so happy about that.” She wasn’t, though. This was the last thing she wanted to do. She hadn’t even told Suzy about what happened. She had kept every single little detail to herself.
Bending forward, she held onto her knees as she took several deep breaths, trying to calm her rioting nerves.
