My hands get clammy, and I shift on my feet, waiting for him to open the door. I’m about to knock again when it opens. My eyes widen. Alex is shirtless, and tattoos cover every inch of his skin, stopping at the crown on his neck. My eyes trail down his muscular body. I could get lost admiring all the ink.

His arms are lean but ripped with swirls of colorful tattoos all the way to the knuckles of his hands. The band of his underwear peeks right above his crisp khakis.

My gaze drifts back up and finally finds his eyes after memorizing every feature of his face. Alex has this sexy baby face, even though he is in his early twenties. Linda told me Alex just turned twenty-one.

My mouth opens and closes like a fish. “I-I’m sorry. I didn’t know if you were busy. I know I should have called.”

He smiles, revealing straight white teeth, and pulls me inside his room, quickly closing the door. My back hits the wood as he leans close to my ear, whispering, “You can visit me in my room any time you want, hermosa. I don’t mind, as long as you can handle being alone with me.”

My chest rises and falls, and I take a deep breath, inhaling his cologne. I never expected him to pull me inside his room. It smells just like him and it makes me forget why I am even here.

“I need to talk to you.”

He places a light kiss at the pulse beating on my neck, and my hands land on his chest. His head tilts to where my hands are and then he looks back at me with pure lust. My mind catches up with me, and I remember what Khalani said outside.

He probably just wants a quick lay and maybe I want that too or perhaps I don’t. Either way, it’s unfair to keep him in the dark about who I am. He works closely with my brother and the Kings. It would be messed up if I caused bloodshed. My brother is not to be toyed with and the rest of the guys will fall in line. Mason will be glad to help dispose of the bodies.

He leans his head close, his lips hovering over mine, and I’m frozen in place. “There is something you need to know about me,” I whisper.

He pulls back and frowns. “What do you need to tell me? What do I need to know?”

My hands drop from touching his bare chest and he steps farther away, waiting for my response. I look away but he grips my chin, forcing my eyes to find his.

“Tell me,” he demands.

I close my eyes, my heart hammering in my chest, and tell him. “My name is Luciana Sincere. My brother is Aiden Sincere, known asEl Demonio. I’m his twin sister.”

“Fuck,” he murmurs, dropping his hand from my chin.

I reach behind me for the door handle to get the hell out of here. Giving him my back, I open the door and pause before walking through. “I’m sorry, but you can understand why I needed to tell you. I’ll understand if you don’t want to talk to me ever again,” I say as I walk into the hallway, angry at myself for leading him on, thinking it wouldn’t matter.

Khalani and Linda are waiting in the living room with some members who have arrived and are seated on the couch. Khalani must sense I just want to get out of here. She wastes no time in opening the front door as I rush to unlock the Porsche so we can leave.

As soon as we are in the car, Khalani asks, “What happened?”

Linda scoots close between the center console as I drive toward the stadium to see the season-opening game at Hillside University. “Yeah, you looked upset. Are you okay? What did Alex say when you told him who you are?”

I glance at her through the rearview mirror. “All he said is ‘fuck.’ I didn’t stick around to hear more. I feel like shit for leading him on. He asked me out on a date tomorrow night, and I said yes, but that was before this. The last thing I need is for Aiden and the guys to go apeshit on him.”

“They will go apeshit either way,” Khalani says. “At least, Ma—” She places her hand over her mouth.

“What?” Linda looks at Khalani. “Come on, spit it out. I’m not gonna say anything. I don’t get involved in my brother’s love life. I just give advice. Now spit it out, Khalani.”

Khalani glances at me and I nod, giving her the silent “yes” she is seeking. “Mason fucked Lucy the summer before senior year. Then, he friend zoned her ass a week later. After two and a half months, she found him having a threesome in her pool house with Colton and someputanamed Gloria that now attends Hillside University. Did I leave anything out?” Khalani asks me.

“No,” I answer. There is an important piece left out, but I keep it to myself.

Linda glares. “Hijo de la chingada, that son of a bitch.”

“I know. She hasn’t been with anyone else after Mase.”

Shaking her head, Linda snarls. “Please, tell me you are not still hung up on that puto, mija. If he doesn’t want you, then find someone who does.”

I snort. “Trust me, I’m trying. It is easier said than done. Aiden and the guys threaten anyone who even looks my way. Last night, Mason gave me a hard time because he figured out I was around a guy. He said he could smell him on me. I finally admitted it but didn’t tell him it was Alex.”

Linda snickers. “I have got to see this go down.”

“I wish you would transfer to Hillside. I would cover the cost if you changed your mind.”
