Lucy walks toward me and stops inches from my face. “Last time I checked, you weren’t my father. I can go wherever I want with whomever I want,” she says through clenched teeth.

When I step closer, I try breathing her in because this is the closest I can get to her strawberry scent, but when I inhale, there is a lingering aroma from a man’s cologne. Rage boils inside my veins, imagining a guy touching her.

“Who were you with, Lucy?”

“I was obviously with Khalani, and I don’t have to tell you shit. Now, fuck off.”

“Yo, Mase,” Colton says. “Chill. She is home unharmed.”

I point my finger at Colton while my eyes bore into her blue ones. “Stay out of it, Colton.” I Place my finger under her chin and ask again, “Who were you with, Lucy?”

She turns her head to avoid my touch and it just angers me more that she doesn’t want me to touch her. I know she hates me for hurting her, but I can’t help myself. My job is to protect her. It’s what I have always done, and nothing will ever change that.

“I told you,” she snaps.

“I can smell him on you.”

Her eyes widen, and she knows I know she was with a guy, but she shrugs. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Why are you lying to me?” I rake my fingers through my hair in frustration. I know when she is lying to me and it pisses me off that we have come to this. “Stop pissing me off, Lucy. Who is he?” I say, my tone rising a fraction higher.

“Yo, Mase. She was with a guy, so what?” Leo says. “Khalani was with her and they’re family.”

My face contorts in anger when I glare at Leo. “Stop getting involved, Leo.”

Leo turns his body so he can look at Lucy behind me. “Sorry, princessa. I tried. You know how Mase gets when he’s overprotective of you. He’s not used to you going out to see a guy. I hope he treats you nice and doesn’t go to our school because you know he will become our newest target.”

Lucy finally speaks. “Don’t worry. He doesn’t attend Hillside, so there is nothing to worry about.”

“So why did you lie and tell me you didn’t meet with some guy?”

“Because it’s none of your business.” She twirls and heads to the stairs. “I have nothing to say to you. I don’t owe you an explanation.”

“We’ll see,” I yell, watching her luscious ass sashaying up the stairs.

A few minutes later, Aiden walks down the stairs with his brows raised. “What did I miss? Lucy is pissed as fuck.” Colton and Leo fill him in, and he shakes his head. “As long as the asshole she is seeing doesn’t hurt my sister, it’s all good,” Aiden says.

We leave the house, the four of us hopping in Aiden’s Charger. “That is what I’m afraid of,” I tell him.

What I really want to say is that I’m afraid she will fall in love with someone else. My feelings for her are all over the place. There is a fine line between strong friendship and falling in love. The lines were blurred between us when we saw how deep our attraction went that night. It was like a bomb exploding and I will never forget the way she felt in my arms.

I am not going to lie and say I never imagined having sex with my best friend’s sister and I would always feel guilty after. Before that night with Lucy, I would have sex with girls from school. Lucy’s name would slip out of my mouth because it is the only way I could come. Before, it happened twice with Ivy, and she lost it and threatened she was going to tell Aiden I thought of fucking Lucy. I warned her if she did that, I would tell Colton to stop fucking her. He’s the fun one with no feelings or attachment. No commitments or strolling walks on the beach. Colton fucks, and that’s it. Gloria wants to be exclusive with a King and she has her sights set on me. After the night I tasted Lucy, it was never going to happen in my book with anyone. It would mean losing Lucy forever. I’ve pushed her away and I’m terrified.

Lucy is not the type to sleep around. I’m the only guy she’s had sex with and if it were up to me, I would be the last. It sounds unfair, but I always put Lucy on a pedestal as the girl who is pure and untouchable. Call me a possessive asshole.

After the twenty-minute drive, we enter the house where Smiley lives in East Hillside.

Linda answers the door, and her gaze instantly finds Colton, like always. “Smiley is in the kitchen,” she tells us.

She still gets jittery around us because she has witnessed us losing it with the guys a couple of times and sometimes the softy in me feels bad for her.

She backs up when Colton inches closer to her. “When are you going to let me kick it with you?” he asks.

She rolls her eyes. “When your cock finally reaches the tip of my pinkie finger,” she mocks, raising said finger toward Colton.

Aiden and Leo chuckle.

“Dream on, Colton,” Leo says. “You keep trying and it’s never gonna happen.”
