With that decision made, I was finally able to fall into a light sleep. Unfortunately, the time passed quickly, and it was soon time for us to go.
Elise was dead to the world. Usually, when I woke up, she woke up instantly. Not this morning. I started shaking her, and she still didn’t want to wake up. I was afraid that nothing short of dynamite was going to bring her out of her slumber.
“Sorry,” she said, rubbing her eyes.
“I know you’re tired, baby. Today is our last day on this journey. By tomorrow, you can enjoy a hot bath with Epsom salt or bubbles and a soft bed.”
She groaned. “That only sounds good if you are with me.”
Then, realizing what she said, she scrambled out of bed. I was sure that she was just as nervous as I was about telling each other how we felt.
She splashed her face with water and grabbed a couple of breakfast bars out of the bag. She scarfed those down quickly, and we got her burqa on her. I honored the women who wore them because they chose to, but felt bad for those who were forced to. The burqas looked heavy and hot.
We both heard a lot of noise from the front of the hostel. I was sure that neither of the two men who had knocked on our bedroom door last night was completely satisfied. The gunman likely just went out to find reinforcements and then came back for us. Since it was still dark out, they likely thought that we would still be asleep.
Once again, we found ourselves sneaking out the window of the hostel as more people came in the front. The loud voices sounded angry, and I didn’t want to get caught by them. We rushed away as the door of the room was broken in. We barely escaped by the skin of our teeth.
We hurried, but we didn’t run. We didn’t want anyone to think that we were suspicious. Running automatically meant guilt, regardless of what society one was in.
Elise kept up the best that she could. She couldn’t lift up the skirts of her outfit because one, it would show her white legs and two, it would be considered indecent. More than once she stumbled, because the fabric of her outfit tangled around her legs.
I couldn’t help her, because it wouldn’t be proper with the society.
Looking around, I noticed that there were people watching the streets while they tried to stay hidden. Elise and I kept to the shadows the best that we could to keep from being spotted. We also found a couple of alleys to skirt down. It wouldn’t matter whether we were caught in an alley or a street because no one would help us either way, and with the number of people they had with them, we would be trapped.
Finally, I breathed a sigh of relief as we reached the edge of the woods.
“Keep your burqa on for a while longer. I know it’s hard to walk in it, but if we are followed, we want to try to keep suspicion off as much as possible. You can take it off at the last minute if you need to fight.”
“Okay,” she said softly.
Around noon, we found a little hidden spot among some trees where we stopped. She pulled off the burqa and dropped it to the ground. I rolled it up into a tiny package and stuffed it in the backpack.
Her hair was a mess. The hood from the burqa had pulled it all out of her bun, and she looked like she had just stuck her finger in a light socket. Somehow, she had managed to wipe a smudge of dirt on her cheek. She smiled at me, and the world lit up as though a thousand suns had come out. Her purple eyes flashed a prism of brilliant colors.
We didn’t have the time, but I couldn’t stop myself. I leaned down and captured her lips with mine. She wrapped her arms around my body as my mouth explored hers. I tasted her sweetness. I felt her large breasts press against my body, and I traced her gorgeous, sexy curves with my palms. Her body, pressed against mine, was soft, hiding the strength and determination of her spirit, heart, and mind.
The wind blew gently around us, and I felt my cock growing hard as I made love to her mouth the same way I longed to make love to her body. I ached to lay her down in the grass and let my body show how much I adored her and her body. I wanted to make her feel like the beautiful, incredible woman that I knew her to be.
Yet, we couldn’t. The evil men were not too far behind us. We did not come all this way to lose the game at the end. Every second we stayed in this country put us at more and more risk. With a groan, I lifted my head from her mouth.
“Grab something to eat and drink quickly. We need to get moving again.”
With a starry gaze, she nodded. She pushed some jerky in her mouth and chewed while she fixed her hair. As she was fixing one of the last errant strands, we heard a disturbance in the woods not too far away. They were so quiet, but it was unmistakable. The enemy was very close by. We had to go.
Elise and I quietly picked our way through the countryside. We were moving a lot slower because we were trying to watch where we stepped, avoiding cracking twigs or rustling leaves that would let our trackers know where we were.
We had traveled quietly for about another two hours, but I could feel that they were far too close now. By the sounds that we heard, I knew there would be several of them. This was not going to be a pretty ending.
I had to make a decision about how I was going to fight. I normally fought better in my wolf form because of additional strength and agility. However, I was more vulnerable to firearms. I couldn’t shoot back.
After a few minutes of weighing the odds in my mind, I pulled Elise behind some trees.
“I will be able to fight better in my wolf form. Do you know how to use a gun?” I asked her.
“Most of them. Dad took me to the range a lot. He was insistent that I knew how to defend myself if at all possible.”
“Good,” I said.
