We do that.

“Then, put your nails in.”

“That’s seriously brilliant.” I laugh.

He puts the head of the hammer in my hand, I grab it, then he pulls me to him. He lays a gentle kiss on my lips then let’s go of it.

“What was that for?” I ask him.

“Because you’re beautiful, and I want to take every opportunity to do it before you leave.”

I nod my head then look down at the hammer in my hand.

“Yeah, okay.” My cheeks flame. He runs his thumb across my bottom lip before returning to what he was doing.

There is a tightness in my chest as I grab nails and tap them into the wall. I hang the pictures then take a step back. They are perfectly aligned. Troy rolls out the rug while I add the few small trinkets we found for her bookshelves. Then we position the desk in just the right spot so she has a view of her window bird feeder.

We stand in the center of the room. Troy wraps his arm around my shoulders.

“We did a damn good job if I do say so myself,” I say.

“This was all you.”

“No, you made the shelves.”

He laughs. “Yeah, but you made the room come to life.”

I lay my head on his shoulder. It has been fun putting this together with him, and I know Sarah is going to freak out when she sees it. She’s always wanted her own library. Now, she has one at homeandher bookstore. I'm so happy she has found her happy place here.

"I am going to go to the store and get some things for breakfast tomorrow," Troy says to me as we walk out of the room.

"And I will get some sandwiches made for lunch."

"Perfect."

He puts his hand on my lower back and lays a gentle kiss on my cheek before letting his hand softly sweep down my ass as he walks away.

I hear the front door shut, so I make my way to the kitchen and pull out all the sandwich making supplies. Now, why is it I am doing this to myself? Why am I letting this man into my life? Why am I letting myself fall for someone who lives across the United States? It would never work. Do I kind of want to try?Yes. Do I think, right now, that I would be willing to give up my life in Pennsylvania? Not really.

But what if it’s him? What if this crazy universe brought us together because we are meant to be? How crazy would it be, though, that my best friend married a man whose best friend is the man I am supposed to be with? That’s some happily ever after romance movie right there.

I mindlessly make the sandwiches. Layering meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on wheat bread. Then I search the cupboards for chips, grab a couple of waters from the fridge, and set the table. I sit there and wait until Troy comes back.

I hear the door click and bags rustling as Troy walks into the kitchen. I’ve already eaten half my sandwich and most of my chips.

“Starting without me, huh?” he asks.

“I was hungry.” I shrug my shoulders.

Troy puts away the ingredients and joins me at the table. He picks up his sandwich and takes a big bite.

“Perfect,” he says through a full mouth.

“It’s not rocket science to make a sandwich,” I say as I take another bite of mine.

“True, but you made it, so it’s perfect.”

I shake my head and smile. “You’re such a dork.”
