Feeling flustered, but strangely exhilarated, all because Carter had nice looking friends and I tried to stop my lips from curling upwards, as an evil thought ran through my head.
Revenge.
Chapter 3
Carter
“Yes!”IstoppedwhatI was doing after hearing the loud whoop. Not that I was doing much, but sprawling on one of the recliner chairs in the family area as I threw a ball in the air and waited patiently for said whoop. I knew if anyone could get the information, it was Ryan. Our resident computer geek and secret hacker.
“Yes, yes, yes,” Ryan yelled. His fingers continued tapping away on the computer for a little while longer. He finally stopped and swivelled on his desk chair, which was positioned by the open-plan kitchen. “I’ve found her timetable, student ID, dorm block and room number.”
As the printer zoomed, I jumped up and joined Seb as we huddled around the kitchen island and waited.
Ryan’s lip twisted up on one side and if he wasn’t fair-haired, under six feet in height, lacking the muscles, I’d say he looked like a devious and shifty Dark Fae right then. He looked at each of us one by one, and his wily look turned into a grin that was so severe his face would ache in the morning.
“It appears she is studying everything you and Kane are. Same classes and same times.”
I smiled and leaned back on the stool. I turned and glanced at Kane; he shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly—not impressed by her.
Happy with that.
Her uncle had requested my full timetable, but I never expected him to pull the whole thing off. But this was Lacey’s uncle and now her guardian, Clayton Summer, and the man had too many people in his pocket. But the fact he gave massive donations to the university didn’t harm. Also, being the King of the magical kingdom didn’t harm either. A role he would eventually hand to Lacey, and I had to win her back to be the one at her side.
“That’s a shame. Doesn’t she have any classes with me? I wouldn’t mind seeing her gorgeous face every day,” Seb said. He sunk his teeth into his apple, biting off an enormous chunk.
I laughed and shook my head. “You have that wrong Seb, because Lacey will be mine again.”
“You’re optimistic.” Seb grinned and went to take another bite of his apple, then paused. “She’s on the market.”
“Fuck off Seb. This isn’t just about getting Lacey back with me. Remember the bigger picture here. We are to protect her. Her parents are dead and her uncle is finally letting her leave him to attend university and I know that was difficult for him to do.”
“Difficult? What do you mean?” Ryan asked.
“The powers that be wanted her to remain inside the walls for her safety and to protect her until she’s ready.”
“She’ll never be ready.” Seb glanced away for a moment. "She needs as much protection as she can get."
“You don’t really know her, Seb. Believe me, she is tougher than all of us. She can fight men twice her size.”
“Mm,” Kane mumbled from the sofa.
“She fucking can,” I argued. These guys didn’t have a clue what Lacey was capable of, obviously seeing her as a dancer and not the killer I knew she could be. But I’d seen her fight, and she was a fast as fuck. I swear I couldn’t see her limbs move as she brought grown men to their knees.
“I know,” Kane muttered again, and he was definitely trying to wind me up.
“We know what she is capable of, Carter,” Ryan said, throwing another copy of her timetable to me. “Anything else you want me to hack into?”
“Yes, her personal computer. How difficult would that be?”
Ryan raised his eyes and said, “for legit reasons or personal reasons?”
I smirked.
Ryan shook his head. “I’ll look. Anything else?”
“No, I need to let her uncle know it is us looking into her file, as I’m sure he will have a tracker on any clicks to her name.”
Ryan’s eyes widened. “Fuck, you didn’t say that before I hacked into it.”
