“I can’t drink it that fast.”

“Keep it in the can and you can take it with you.”

“You are an alcoholic, aren’t you?” I laughed. Pouring a third of my drink into the glass. “I’ll have this and you take the rest.” I handed the can to Polly.

Sipping away on my drink. I slipped my money and debit card inside my mobile case, putting that and my key in the inside pocket of the long cape part of the costume, designed to not have to worry about that side of things.

Fifteen minutes later, we were at the Judge’s Hotel in the centre of town. The event was being held in the hotel’s large ballroom and after handing over our tickets, we pushed through the many dancers asLady Gaga’s song Monstersboomed through the speakers. Ghosts, spiders and far too much webbing decorated the room.

“Let’s dance,” Polly said as she pulled at the bow holding the cape around my neck. She dragged it from my shoulders and laid it on a chair next to a kissing couple. His hands roamed over her body, his eyes opened and flicked upwards as he glanced over her shoulder. Our eyes locked for a moment before Polly grabbed my hand and I twisted away from him and we ran toward a group of dancers in various costumes.

The music changed and Polly shrieked as she danced in a weird tip-toeing creepy move to theMonster Mash. We danced to more tunes, singing along loudly to the old Halloween music.Michael Jackson’s Thrillercame on and Polly held my arm at the elbow. She raised her mouth to my ear. “Let’s get a drink,” she yelled.

I nodded and strolled to pick up my cape, throwing it over my shoulders, but not before noticing the groping and kissing had escalated to dry humping.

Brazen.I smiled and turned, and we walked to the bar.

“Take it off, you look sexy in that outfit.” Polly pulled at the cape.

I spun around to a tap on my shoulder, smiling at the girl in front of me. Tall, brunette, very curvy body with perky large breasts that were probably the envy of every girl in there—including me.

“Can I help you?” I asked.

“Yes, you certainly can, by keeping away from my man,” the perky boob girl said.

I narrowed my eyes. “You’ll need to tell me whoyourman is.” I wondered if she was the girl getting her arse groped, but it made no sense. I certainly wasn’t sending any messages to her boyfriend.

“Don’t act all innocent with me. All the girls try it on with him, but he is mine,” she said.

“Fine, but I still don’t know whoheis,” I said, and pursed my lips.

She puffed out her cheeks, rolled her eyes, and sighed. “It’s Blake, the captain of the uni football team.” She rolled her eyes again, and I joined her and rolled mine exaggeratedly. “Remember now?” she spat.

I side-eyed Polly and shrugged my shoulder. “Sorry sweetie, you’ve got the wrong girl.”

She took a step forward; her face up close to me, but Polly dragged her backwards. The hair on my neck rose, and I wriggled my head in response. She tipped her chin low and looked through her eyelashes at me. “Did you call me sweetie? Are you taking the piss out of me?”

“Nope, I’m being nice to you,” I said and smiled sweetly.

Polly pulled the girl’s elbow and yelled, “you’ve got the wrong girl and I think it would be best if you walk away.”

“No, I haven’t. I was told he likes her,” she said, shrugging Polly off her arm.

I blew out an exasperated breath, I raised my eyes to the ceiling. I really didn’t need this type of shit in my life.

My heart raced and my eyes widened as I saw the palm of a hand motioning towards my face. It was slow moving, and I watched intently as it got closer and closer. Then it was strange, just the briefest of time a gentle breeze floated over my cheek. I closed my eyes for a moment and opened them and stared into the eyes of the girl who gave me trouble. Her eyes widened to their full stretch when her hand stopped in the air.

Her horrified face told me she knew what I’d done. I grabbed hold of her fingers to make it look like I stopped the movement with my hand and not my mind.

I dragged her palm towards my face. I squeezed her fingers, just enough for it to hurt. “If this hand landed on my face, it would now be crushed.”

She nodded her head quickly.

“I think you should leave me alone, don’t you?” I said to her calmly, still holding her hand.

“Yes, I’m… I’m sorry. I think I got the wrong girl. I should go,” she said, with a startled expression.

“I agree,” Polly yelled.
