Jack stopped whispering into Lacey’s ear and twisted the moment Carter took the seat beside him. Jack glared at him. “Piss off,” he said. “This table is taken.”

“She’s taken,” Carter said, much calmer than I expected him to, especially considering he looked like he was going to burst into flames.

“Get stuffed Carter, I’m single and can do what I want with whom I want,” Lacey said.

Carter swallowed, and I actually felt a little sorry for him.

I took a seat, too. There was nothing like spoiling a potential threesome or looking at Polly gawping at Blake. Maybe they were now looking at a foursome. Though the look on Blake’s face told me hestillwanted Lacey, too.

Damn, Blake remembers.

I had a feeling that both Kane and Lacey didn’t remember.

Lacey looked pissed as we all took a seat. Her tongue licked her bottom lip and as damned as I was going to be, I wanted to feel it in my mouth or on my cock. She raised her eyes and glanced at me, one side of her lip tilted as she chuckled.

Fucking hell, she heard my thoughts.

She laughed and shook her head, and I was a chuffed that she still had her psychic powers, knowing it might make making her mine again so much easier than first thought. Unfortunately, it meant the Dark King could get to her too.

She continued to flirt with Jack and piss Carter off, but I saw her though, as she talked to Jack. I saw each look through her eyelashes when she thought nobody was looking, as she flitted her gaze from Carter to Ryan, to me, to Blake and to Kane. I could see as she sized each of us up. I didn’t know if I was the only one to see it.

She glanced back at me, and our eyes locked for a moment, but as aSpice Girlssong ended andR.E.M.’s Everybody Hurtsstarted playing, she changed.

It was as though Lacey tuned into the words and stopped listening to the arguing. She sighed lightly and took a sip of her drink and as the argument between Jack and Carter escalated. Blake leaned to her ear and whispered something to her.

She turned to Blake and smiled at him and mouthed, “I’m okay but thank you.”

He squeezed her leg, and they smiled at each other. Polly’s eyes glanced to where he laid his hand and I couldn’t see exactly where it was, but by the angle, it was on her thigh and his elbow moved as he caressed her.

“Excuse me,” Lacey said soon after.

Jack whispered in her ear. She said something back and gave him a smile. Blake and Polly shifted out of the booth to let her out. Polly’s eyes narrowed as Blake placed one hand on Lacey’s shoulder and the other against her face. He talked in her ear again as his thumb stroked against her cheek.

Carter watched her walk away and twisted to Jack. “What did you say to her?”

“None of your business,” Jack spat.

“She isn’t one of your easy lays, you know,” Carter hissed.

“I asked if I could take her on a date tomorrow night. Does that sound a little more honourable to you?” Jack said, his eyes raised.

“She isn’t free,” Carter yelled.

“According to her, she is. And I’ll take her word over a jilted ex. You lost Carter, get over it.” Jack smirked, keeping his cool.

Carter twisted to Jack. “She is using you to get at me.”

Jack smiled. “I’m happy to be used.”

“Fucking bastard. I swear if you touch her, I’ll kill you,” Carter roared.

Jack nodded. “I’ve seen you, Carter. Don’t pretend you’re the innocent one here. She jilted you because you cheated on her and maybe, just maybe, she isn’t planning on using me or me her. She might actually be over you and looking for… let’s say, me.”

Blake leaned into the argument with a smirk on his face. “Or both of us.”

I shook my head because Blake was not a sharer, never was and never would be, he was the cause of too many arguments in the last life.

“I didn’t fucking cheat, everyone will learn the truth soon enough,” Carter growled.
