There’s a tapping at my window, jolting me out of my own thoughts. I look to see who it is, and a smile breaks through my glum mood. Leo smiles back, giving me a small wave before beckoning me to come outside.
Biting my lip, I take a deep breath and grab my backpack. I can do this. I have my mate with me, and he’s in most of my classes. Iwon’tbe alone.
Opening my car door, I step out. My eyes find his as I close the door behind me, pressing the lock button on my key fob.
But then I realize it’s not just him. Penny is standing behind him, her blue hair sparkling in the sunshine.
“What are you guys doing here?” I ask, putting my backpack on.
“You don’t think we would let you face these vultures alone, do you?” Penny asks.
“I’m gonna stand by my mate's side, and we're gonna show them they can’t bring down Abigail Morningstar that easily,” Leo steps forward, enveloping me in a hug. I wrap my arms around him, burying my face into his chest as I breathe him in.
We're officially bonded, like we were always meant to be. Last night was amazing, better than I could have ever asked for. And all I wanna do is get back in my car, and go home to do it all over again. I didn’t bother healing my body after last night, the soreness reminding me of the best night of my life.
“Abby,” Leo growls into the top of my head. “If you don’t stop smelling so fucking good, I’m gonna get us both kicked out by taking my mate right here in the parking lot against your car.”
My whole body flushes, getting a groan from him this time.
“Sorry,” I laugh, untangling myself in hopes that some space would help with the need to touch and kiss him.
“Never be sorry, Starbright,” he tells me before his eyes light up. “It came in.” He reaches forward, brushing his thumb against the spot on my neck.
“Yeah.” I blush, raising my hand up to place it on top of his. “I noticed it when I was getting ready this morning.
After we showered last night, we cuddled and fell asleep watching a movie. We woke up early, and I drove Leo to his dorm so he could get ready for school before going back home to get ready myself.
“So did mine.” He grins, tilting his head to the side to reveal a feather on his neck, right behind his ear. The base of it is black and fades to white, looking a lot like mine.
“Cute!” Penny says, looking at both of them. “Like matching tattoos.”
“I wonder if Zed’s will show up?” Leo questions, his brows pinching in thought. “Seeing how his neck is almost covered in tattoos.”
“Fate will find a way,” I laugh.
Leo hooks one of his arms through mine, and Penny takes the other.
“Ready to face the day?” Penny asks me.
“No.” I give her a forced smile. “But I’m willing to try with you guys by my side.”
“We’ve got you,” she replies with a wink.
We start walking towards the school when someone honks their horn loudly as they make a sharp turn, cutting us off. We jump back, my heart pounding as they almost run us over.
“Watch out!” Leo shouts.
The car parks and someone gets out. I curse when I see who it is. “Sorry Demon boy, didn’t see you there,” Luke says as he gets out of the car, slamming the door shut behind him. He takes his sunglasses off and puts them on top of his head. “Nice to see you’re alive, Spawny. With all the screaming last night, I thought your boy was murdering you.” He chuckles with a smirk.
My face heats as people around us start to laugh.
“Don’t waste your time talking to him,” Leo says, wrapping his arm around me to turn me away from him. I duck under him and step up to Luke as Isaac and Noah get out of the car.
“Look, I know you’re jealous because I’ve found not only one but two fated mates and all you have is a girl who just wants you for your money and power, but really, green isn’t your color,” I tell him, wiping the cocky smirk right off his face, getting a scowl instead. “Oh, and you might wanna work on that look. Don’t wanna get frown lines.”
Ignoring my racing heart, I turn from their glares and go back over to Leo and Penny.
“You're sexy when you're like this, you know that?” Leo states, kissing the side of my head as we walk away.
