“Yeah, I guess that's fine,” I say, my thoughts still wondering where he could be. He’s never missed meeting me here before.

Lacing my fingers with his, we leave the car behind, walking through the graveyard to the other side, exiting into the Dark Night’s side.

I immediately see the difference between the two sides of the island. There's cars honking in the distance, people yelling in the street, and the clouds above just have this gloomy look to them.

Leo and I walk down the street, keeping an eye out for the shop, taking in our surroundings. As we get further in, people look at me a lot like how the pure bloods do. Then I realize I’m still in my Angelic Academy uniform.

Ignoring them, we keep going until luck finds us. “Hey, is that the place?” Leo asks, pointing to a shop up ahead. As we get closer, I can read the sign on top of the building that saysFrank’s Auto.

“Looks like it.”

“Hello?” Leo calls out into the open garage. A man comes around the corner in blue coveralls covered in grease.

“Can I help you?” the old man asks, wiping his dirty hands off on a stained rag.

“Hi. We were wondering if Zed is here, or where we can find him.”

He narrows his eyes, taking in my uniform. Thankfully, Leo is dressed casually. “Who's asking?” he questions, his voice laced with suspicion.

“Um, my name is Abby.”

The old man's face softens a little. “Abby? Zed’s mate?” A part of me perks up at the fact Zed’s been telling people about me. “You know, if anyone deserves a good woman and a loyal mate, it's that boy. Zed is a hard working kid that was dealt a crappy hand. You gonna break his heart?” he asks.

I shake my head. “Never. Zed means a lot to me. It’s still new, but I know the fates have made the right choice.”

“You’re nothing like your daddy, are you?” he asks, narrowing his eyes again. I really wish people knew that my dad wasn’t as bad as people thought he was. Okay, that's a lie, it might only be to me, so I see their point.

“No, Sir.”

“Good.” He nods. “Zed’s off work today, but if he's not with you, or here, then he should be home.” He steps out into the driveway and points. “Go down that street. Walk until you hit Cedar Avenue and take a left. His house is number 1909.”

“Thank you.” I give him a small smile and grab a hold of Leo’s hand. The man raises his brow. “My other mate,” I tell him, not wanting him to think I’m messing around on Zed. He nods and waves goodbye.

It doesn't take too long until we find the house. It’s not as run down as the houses around it, but it's no stunner.

“Do we just go up and knock?” Leo asks, eyeing up the house.

Before I can answer him, I hear voices coming from the back of the house. Looking up at Leo, I cock a brow.

“Wanna snoop?” he grins, before grabbing my hand and dragging me over to the fence.

Looking through the crack in the fence, my heart drops into my stomach. Standing there on the back porch is Zed, with a girl pressing up into him.

“Come on, Z. Remember how good we were together? We could have that again,” she says in a seductive purr, running her fingers down his chest. I feel sick when I see her reach for his dick.

But it's quickly replaced with shock as I see him grab her hand roughly and toss it away from him. “I told you to fuck off, Tilly. We're over and done with. We have been for a while. And don’t act like you haven't been with anyone willing to give you the time of day. You cheated on me more than once, and I told you I was done with you the last time. So fuck off.”

“It’s because of her, isn’t it?” she sneers. “You know I’m better than that prim and proper pussy. She’s just a freak that doesn’t belong in Heaven or Hell.”

My eyes widen as Zed’s hand shoots out, gripping her around the neck. He slams her against the side of the house, his face an inch away from her. “Talk about her again, I dare you. Fucking do it.” His voice is oozing danger. This isn’t a side of Zed I’ve seen before, and if my body has anything to say about it, the heat in my lower belly approves. The girl looks frightened, her eyes going wide with panic. “Abby is a million times the woman you could ever dream to be. Don’t even think for a second you have anything on her. Now, I told you to fuck off. If you come near me again, or have the nerve to mention her name again, you will regret it.”

He lets go of her, and she lets out a sob, covering her neck. “You're not worth it anyway,” she coughs out. “Only good thing about you is your big dick.”

She turns around, heading in this direction. We quickly move away, trying not to look suspicious, but it’s kind of obvious we were eavesdropping.

“That was... intense,” Leo whispers. I just look at him and nod, still slightly shocked.

The girl opens the back gate and notices us. Now that I can see her up close, I realize I recognize her. She’s the black haired chick who’s been fucking Isaac on and off all summer. The one I saw him screwing like a mad man my first day at the house.
