“Hello?”

“It’s Bronywyn,” I bark into the phone.

“What is it?”

“You’re not in your room.” My tone is more accusatory than I meant it to be, but either Delaney doesn’t notice, or she doesn’t care.

“Cole and I came back to my gym. We must have fallen asleep. What time is it?”

“You need to get to my clinic ASAP.”

All sleep vanishes from her voice when she replies, “What happened?”

“It’s—” I turn back toward the room where Rainey sits with Elijah. Whether I tell her or not, Delaney is going to panic. “You just need to get here. Now. I’ll tell you as soon as you do.” Before she can respond, I end the call and turn on my heel, heading back to bandage Rainey up before her sister gets here.

I just wish I could clean myself up, too. As soon as I push into the room, the dark magic surges beneath my skin, and I close my eyes, rolling my shoulders as I try to beat it back down.

The entire time, though, it slithers through me, a serpent seeking its next meal as it eats away at the good in me.

Here’s hoping we can find a way to beat Lucy before I lose the urge to put her down.
