Fuck him. He’s lucky he got off so easily. If it were not for Valentina, Giovi would be dead.

I replay the nights events in my head. What can’t be remedied with a knife stabbed in the main vein in a man’s leg? He’ll bleed out. I did it so I won’t have to worry about crossing paths with him again.

Satisfied with my work, I take off at a dead run, knowing her attacker will be focused on her which gives me the element of surprise.

Adrenaline courses through my veins knowing Valentina is in danger and could potentially be killed if I don’t get there first. Never have I been under such pressure to save someone. Usually, I’m the one hunting the prey, not the one saving it.

I find a second thug searching for her, and by sheer luck spot her hiding behind some low-lying bushes. Smart girl, I’m impressed. After my initial relief that he doesn’t have her, I realize I must kill another man tonight, and none of this was in the original plan.

Sneaking up behind her, I clap my hand over her mouth before she can scream. Startled, she jolts from my touch and tries to fend off my hand. But when I tell her I’m here to help, she immediately submits. Now to prepare for a fight. I unleash the saber-like knife from the handle of my umbrella and wait for an opportunity to strike.

Feeling her in my arms and seeing the way her fitted dress molds around her womanly shape is distracting. The wet dress clings to her curves and my cock stirs. I need to be concentrating on killing someone not fucking someone.

This has never happened before but then again; I’ve never saved a damsel in distress either. I’ve never even considered it, but there’s something about Valentina that raises my blood pressure and clouds my judgement. Having her as my wife might be more dangerous than anything I’ve ever done. I’m not one to bend for just anyone except my grandfather, and even at that, I give his demands a lot of thought.

No one should threaten my woman and expect to live.

He fucking dies.

The moment is right, and I’m poised for action. I have the element of surprise on my side and strike first. He tries to punch me, but I swing my sword and it connects with his neck and he goes down.

As he lies there, lifeless. I notice a stun gun ring on his gloved finger, similar to brass knuckles. That tells me he’s probably from Sicily because I’ve never seen guys here use these gadgets before. The Sicilians love the theatrics.

Maybe they were sent by Luciano’s thief in an attempt to kidnap or kill her. Sending men to carry out such a bold move is a huge risk and the man behind this will pay with his life once Luciano finds him.

I turn back to Valentina, who realizes the danger has passed and is trying to get up. I don’t want her to see my face and have her remember this terrifying event every time she sees me at the dinner table.

Helping her up, nothing could have prepared me for the bolt of electricity that ran up my arm when I touched her. I’ve never been tased, but I imagine this is what it feels like. Plus, my heart is racing, and the desire to protect her is alarming. It overwhelms me.

Her hair is a mess, but it’s kinda sexy. The just-been-fucked look looks good on her. Her plump lips are slightly parted. I’m tempted to put my thumb over her inviting mouth, but instead I kiss her.

That’s right, I kiss her. Not just any kiss, a deep kiss, with my tongue inside her mouth and my cock pressed against her. I want to taste and explore every inch of her.

I can’t wait to make her mine and fuck her long enough and hard enough to erase all other men from her memory.

She clings to me as our bodies melt together like heated butter and sugar to produce a sweetness I’ve never known. I’m lost in this moment as I run my tongue up her neck and nibble on her ear. I’m drowning in her deliciousness like a man without a raft.

Knowing I must leave, I kiss her again, deeper, pushing my tongue further into her mouth that is sweeter than cotton candy. Her tongue meets mine and they dance, first out of eagerness and sheer lust, then yielding and finding a rhythm, making me wish I could pull up her skirt and fuck her right here and now.

A voice is yelling so there his no time for a goodbye, I abruptly pull away to disappear into the night.

As soon as Valentina leaves and I know she’s with her father, I double back to pick up the stilettos she dropped. The less evidence laying around the better. Then I text Savio to meet me at the Spanish Steps.

I’m still holding Valentina’s shoes when Savio pulls up in a rented Mercedes.

“I don’t think those will fit you, brother,” he teases as we make our way back to the hotel. “So, what happened?”

“Two men were after Valentina. I had to take them out.”

“No fucking way. What the hell? That tells me Luciano’s got problems in his house.”

“Ha, you have no idea. He better keep my fiancée safe. The loss of these men will send a message to whoever sent them. She won’t be coming to Florence until January. Her father requested she spend one last Christmas at home.”

“You’re going soft.”

“Hm, I can see how you would think that, however I need time to get the house ready and she needs time to digest that she’s getting married.”

“I see,” he says, not taking his eyes off the crazy traffic in Rome. It will stay this way until about two in the morning. Then the city sleeps for a few hours and start up all over again, with rush hour lasting all day.
