Taylor got into her car too, but she had to just sit there for a minute and

give her brain time to catch up. She wasn’t thinking about all the tasks she

had to accomplish for the business. She wasn’t thinking about the building,

renovations, marketing, contacts, construction, shelters, lawyers, opening

day— any of it.

She was trying to decode what Christina said to her right at the end.

Unfortunately, that just started her off on an entirely unwanted line of

thought. Was Christina really a lesbian? Was she available? What did it

matter if she was? They were two different people. Taylor didn’t even like

the other woman. She decidedly did not like her, after that first meeting.

Christina was way too invested in her job to mix business with pleasure,

especially since it appeared that they’d now be working and making

business decisions together.

Taylor stopped thinking. She reached for her seatbelt and clicked it into

place. She started the car and focused instead on her route back home. She

could think about the more complicated stuff— business stuff only— when

she got there.

Chapter 11

Christina

The day that Taylor had stood up to Christina in the parking lot started a

new trend. While Christina admired Taylor’s backbo

ne and her ability to

finally stand up for herself, she found it slightly annoying that Taylor

second guessed everything Christina said. During the week after finalizing

the purchase of the building, they clashed on just about everything. Even if

they were just having a conversation over the phone, or exchanging emails,

Taylor questioned everything, even the decisions she obviously agreed with.

Christina tried to keep focused on her work, since most days she still

had a packed schedule, but more and more often, she found her attention
