do after that. You could try asking for fifty, and they’d probably try for

thirty, and then you’d settle at forty.”

“Oh— um— yeah. Thank you.”

“Unfortunately, you’ll have to contact the creep to put in the offer for

you.”

“Ugh. He’ll probably mess it up.” Taylor thought it was mildly amusing

that uptight, professional Christina didn’t use the realtor’s name.

“I don’t think so. He might like to ogle breasts instead of offering a

handshake, he might even be a big d-bag, but I figure if he has a listing like

this, then he’s probably a big player in the market. I don’t think he’ll botch

the deal for you. It’s in his best interest to get paid. Since he listed it, he’ll

be making double the commission too.”

“God,” Taylor sighed. “I should have called someone else.”

“Don’t feel too bad. That would have just taken extra time. Anyway,

don’t focus on him. Guys like that aren’t worth a second thought. Just do

what you have to do to make your business a reality and forget about him.”

Christina swallowed thickly, then added. “I’m not sure what you meant

about guys, but I agree. Thoroughly.”

Taylor wasn’t sure if she knew what that meant. She hadn’t specifically

confessed that she was a lesbian. What she’d said could have been taken

many different ways. Was Christina trying to say what Taylor thought she

was saying?

She didn’t feel that she knew Christina well enough to just straight up

ask her if she was a lesbian, so she just nodded like a dummy and smiled

like she understood. Christina gave her a tight smile in return. Just like that,

they seemed to have concluded their business. Christina obviously had

other places she needed to be, probably other meetings to rush off to, so

Taylor just watched her get in her car and drive away. She didn’t peel out of

the lot or spray Taylor with dust and rock bits. Christina was much more
