He frowns, unused to this. Usually he’s the one telling the girls to get out. But not Alabama. The thought of a night like this never happening again, of him missing Alabama in his bed—he ain’t having that. He wants her here in his bed, in his arms. Where she belongs.

“The hell you are.”

A little line appears between her brows. “I won’t be that girl, Griff.”

It’s like a kick to the ribs.

“I told you, you ain’t.”

She gives him a look that says she doesn’t believe him and dips to scoop up her clothes. He watches as she slips on her panties, then her dress.

Griff slides to the edge of the bed, his eyes on her. “Damn it, Al. This ain’t a one-night thing for me.” He’s already decided he won’t play games. He knows what he wants and he wants her. “We’re doin’ this. Doin’ us. I found you again and I ain’t lettin’ go.”

Her eyes widen at the boldness of his words.

“Think on it,” he says before she can refuse him.

“I will.” She meets his eyes. “Tomorrow.”

He grabs her hand. “Now.”

“Tomorrow, Griff.” The soft smile she gives him calms him. Barely. She squeezes his hand. “It’s late. And we gotta sing in Savannah tomorrow.”

Griff lets out a breath. “Al ...”

“Thanks for the boots.” The flirty smile in her voice softens when she says, “Good night, Greyson.”

The click of the door and then she’s gone, leaving Griff sitting there in bed. A little voice inside of him screams at him to get up, to go get her back, but he lets her be. Roping Alabama ain’t his choice. But he sure as hell knows this ain’t no one-night stand.

Normally, he’d reach for a bottle, a stiff drink to soothe himself, to make him drift off into a dreamless sleep, but all he can do is think about Alabama. She’s rocked his world—and not just in the sack. Everything he gave up is back, here if he wants it, and he knows what he has to do. He won’t take his life or his time with Alabama for granted anymore.

And though Griff knows she doubts his womanizing ways, knows she’s refusing to get involved with another man she works with, knows she’s closing herself off because he left her first, he ain’t giving up. He’s gonna show her this is a second chance they can’t pass up.

He doesn’t deserve her, but he wants to deserve her.

Griff flops back in bed, allowing a rare smile to spread across his face. He gets to be the man who proves her wrong. A damn honor. A privilege.

And he’s gonna enjoy every goddamn second.
