Ady looks in my direction and tightens his hold on my shoulder. I’ve never felt more like a team than I do now.

“Hi guys.”

She smiles at everyone, but her eyes keep darting towards Ady and Bryan.

“Katie,” Catherine’s tone proves she is still annoyed.

“I just wanted to say bye before I leave. It was a lovely wedding. We’ll have to meet up for drinks or something in a couple of months when I’m back in town.”

“I don’t think we’ll have the time,” says Catherine.

I stifle a laugh.

“See you around,” she directs at Ady, but he’s not looking or paying any attention to her.

“Bye Katie.”

I say, using the sickly nice voice my mother taught me when she was being passive-aggressive with someone.

“Bye Sara.”

She walks off and the entire table breathes a sigh of relief.

I look around the table and can’t help but feel like I’m the only person missing something here.

“What am I missing?”

“She lives in LA.”

Catherine says, pouring the last of the wine into my already half full glass.

“Ok.”

I take that information in.

“How bad can it be? What's the population like, 13 million?”

“Something like that,” laughs Bryan.

“Right, well, I don’t care. So what if we bump into her? Ady and I had a long chat this morning and I feel a lot better now. You guys were right about me needing a change and stuff. Sorry I didn’t listen to you earlier.”

We enjoy the rest of our day and for the first time in a long time, I really am happy.
