SUBJECT: New investment for your portfolio.

MESSAGE: Hi Adrien,

Sorry to bother you, I know you’re on vacation, but you asked, no demanded, I contact you if anything concerning the takeover of Complete Marketing came up. They want to hear your price. I sent them your starting offer, but they keep calling, so I think they want to hear from the big guy personally. I’m sure a quick call from you should satisfy them. Again, sorry to bother you.

Please send my congratulations to Catherine and Bryan.

MESSAGE: Jenna,

Don’t worry about it. I knew there was a possibility they would want an offer before I’m back next week. Send me over the contact information, and I’ll call them.

I decideto go for a walk on the beach outside the hotel.

After spending the last couple of hours doing some work, I think I’m ready to enjoy the rest of this vacation.

I just wish I hadn’t pushed Sara too much this morning.

I wish we could just hang out. I miss that. I miss her.

Seeing her has made that more and more clear. I need to make amends. I need to get back into Sara’s good graces.

I want to feel her soft lips on mine and preferably on something very, very hard.

I groan, adjusting myself in my shorts.

As if I’d magically made her appear, I see Sara sat on the beach looking out at the sea in front of her.

She sees me out of the corner of her eye, and she tenses.

I sit down on the sand next to her. She doesn’t move, so maybe that’s a good sign.

I know I’m pushing my luck, but I don’t care. I put my arm around her shoulder.

She tenses up again, rests her head on my shoulder and lets out a deep breath.

We sit like that and enjoy the view.

In comfortable silence that you only get with someone really special.

“I really am sorry, Sara. I know it’s five years too late,” I whisper against her ear.

“We should have communicated better. But you should have trusted me.”
