“Small change or not, her offering it meant the world to me.” June gave him a puzzled look. “How did we even get on this topic?”
“I simply mentioned how much you’ve surprised me with your strength.”
“You’ve surprised me, too,” she told him, “with your compassion and willingness to consider an issue from all sides.”
“Thank you, June. Hearing you say that means a lot.”
“When I first met you in Paris, I saw this hot guy with a tremendous amount of business savvy and an even larger amount of confidence. What I didn’t see, what didn’t become evident until I got to know you better, was your kindness and open mind. If you weren’t like that, I know we wouldn’t be together now.”
“I can’t imagine not being with you now.” Cameron pulled her close and placed a sweet kiss on her lips.
She would have happily lingered in his arms all night, but Cameron’s mention of her investigation into her sister’s accident reminded her she had work to do.
“Deron mentioned perhaps inviting us over for dinner this week. If he says something to you about it, whenever works for you will work for me.”
“Good to know.” Cameron studied her face. “I’ll be glad once you get a chance to talk to him and Anson about that night. If they know something that can help, we’ll be that much closer to finding the person who killed your sister.”

They left the party thirty minutes before it was scheduled to end. The crowd had already thinned considerably, and the last thing June wanted was to be left there with no buffer between herself and Cameron’s family.
Cameron found a parking spot on the street a block from her apartment. While the street was well lit, she wasn’t surprised when he got out of the car and fell into step beside her.
Her perfect gentleman, she thought with a rush of affection.
She expected Cameron to take his leave at the door to the lobby, but he walked inside and entered the elevator to ride with her to the third floor.
At the door to her apartment, June turned and wrapped her arms around his neck. “I want you to stay.”
The words simply popped out.
A spark flared in his brilliant blue eyes. “Are you sure?”
She smiled. She didn’t trust easily, but she trusted Cameron Driskill. With her heart and, tonight, with her body. “Positive.”
Before she could pull out her key, his mouth closed over hers, and she let herself drown in feeling and heat. When they finally came up for air, she gave a shaky laugh. “We better get inside before these clothes start coming off, and the neighbors call the cops.”
“I like that thought.”
“You like the idea of the neighbors calling the police?”
He laughed and gave her hair a tug. “I was referring to the clothes coming off.”
Inside, with the door locked and bolted behind them, they made short work of that part of the evening.
“I have condoms,” she told him, her voice sounding breathless as he planted kisses down her neck. “I hoped we’d get to this point.”
“I have some with me, too.” His hands slid up her sides, his thumbs stopping just below her breasts. Heat burned where his palms rested, and desire, hot and sweet, surged. “You’re not the only one who’s been hoping for this.”
Now that they had the housekeeping details out of the way, June gave in to the desire, in to the love that she felt for this wonderful man.
As he scooped her up in his arms and carried her to the bed, dropping down beside her, the rightness of the moment washed over her.
She loved Cameron Driskill, and tonight she would show him just how much.
