“Daddy,” she gasps, covering her mouth with both her hands.
“Little Bean, you represent everything good I’ve done. I’m giving you this ring so it will remind you that no matter where you are, or what you’re doing, all you need to do is call and I’ll come running.”
I take Jade’s right hand and push the silver band onto her finger. It’s an exact replica of the ring Evie wears.
“I promise to always be right behind you, Jade. So I can catch you when you fall, and hold you up when life gets hard. So I can cheer for you when you’re happy, and help fix your mistakes when you make them. I’ll always be right behind you because you come first in my life.”
I wipe the tear from her cheek as she gives me a wobbly smile.
“I love you, Daddy,” she whispers as she throws her arms around my neck.
“I love you more, Little Bean.”
More than anything because my daughter is my everything.
The End
