Archer laughed, and then we sat back as the waiter handed us our drinks and our bread.

“Do you guys need a few minutes, or have you decided?” Trevor asked, looking at both of us.

“What are your specials?” Archer asked before I could say anything.

I gave him a grateful look as I continued to peruse the menu. For a guy who had looked it up before, I had no idea what I was doing. I was not good at this whole dating thing.

“We have a fresh butternut squash ravioli in a tomato reduction,” he began, as he continued to talk I just sighed, trying to keep up.

Most days, I was a steak and baked potato man, or a chicken breast if I wanted to go healthy. I used to be better at this. But I guess being a hermit in my own home for so long meant that I didn’t get out enough.

“And finally, we have a balsamic ribeye that has the best marbling I’ve seen. It comes with smashed potatoes and grilled asparagus.”

My stomach growled at that, and Archer beamed.

“What do you think? You want to go steak, but with a twist?”

“Would a balsamic glaze be good?” I asked, raising a brow. “Sorry,” I said to Trevor. “I’m new at all this.”

“No, it’s fine. And it is quite wonderful. It doesn’t taste like you’re licking vinegar or anything,” he said with a laugh. “I can go through each layer of the flavors for you, or you can just trust me.”

I looked at Archer, who just shrugged. “Trust him. And if you don’t like it, we’ll get you something else.”

“I’m not going to waste a steak. Let’s do this.”

“That sounds great. What about appetizers?”

“There’s a goat cheese and beet salad that looks amazing,” Archer began, and I shook my head. “Whatever you want. I am clearly the one that’s behind on all this.”

“I have just the thing for both of you,” Trevor said as he took our menus and left, leaving me dumbfounded.

“Is he going to order us an appetizer?”

“Who knows. But I think you made an impression.”

That made me laugh. “No, Archer, you’re the one that made an impression.”

“Or maybe it’s the both of us,” Archer said as he wiggled his brows.

“You know, I don’t think I could ever share. I’m not a poly type of guy.”

“Honestly, same. Two of my cousins are in poly relationships and they make it work, but it’s not for me.”

My brows rose. “Really? That’s pretty cool.”

“Very much so. They’re all parents now, or at least becoming parents, so they have dealt with the legality of being in a poly relationship, with powers of attorney and everything. So I guess if any of my siblings decided to add a third to their pairings, they would have an outline.”

“They should write a book.”

“Maybe. Or maybe it can just go down into the Montgomery family bible.”

“I’m a little worried to think of what that bible would contain.”

Trevor came back, with the beet salad in one hand and some form of mushroom thing in the other.

“These are our stuffed mushrooms with cheese. Since you ordered goat cheese, I assumed you’d be okay with that type of dairy.”

“That looks amazing,” I said as I looked down at it. “Thank you.”
