Chapter Ten

Imadeitthroughthe rest of the day without running into Blake’s chest again. Vicki showed up and walked me through all of her duties while eyeing me up and down. Hannah was right about her. Vicki wasn’t a very nice woman. She kept me away from my boss, though, so I appreciated her, even in her moodiness.

Back at home, I took Hank from Kara and held him while I rested on the couch. He was content to just play with my hair while I held him, and it was the most peace I’d felt all day. I was still enjoying him when a knock sounded on the door. Kara called out to me a second later, and I felt a flutter in my stomach, wondering who was there for me. Isaac, or Blake. Dismay hit me as I realized I didn’t know which one I’d rather it be.

I adjusted Hank and went to see who was there. Finding Isaac, I smiled. I also realized, though, that I would’ve been happy to see Blake, too. What was wrong with me?

“Hey.” Isaac’s slow smile sent warmth pooling between my thighs. He laughed as Hank reached for him and happily took my son from me. “Have you eaten?”

I was about to answer when Kara appeared from behind me. “She hasn’t eaten. She’s famished, just starving. You have to take her and feed her right now!”

I grunted as she pushed me out of the house. “Kara!”

“And just hand that baby back to me. I had to share him with my coworkers today so I didn’t get as much time as I needed. You kids go eat and I’ll see you later, Mal.”

I took Hank before she could and held him to my chest. “I’ve barely seen him at all today.”

Isaac shrugged. “Bring him with us.”

I thought about what we might end up doing when I went with him and nearly choked. “On second thought, he should spend some time bonding with his Aunt Kara.”

Kara laughed and took him from me. “That’s what I thought. You kids have fun now.”

Before I could even grab my purse, she shut the door in my face. I sighed and looked back at Isaac. “This is your fault.”

The door opened a crack and my purse and shoes were shoved out at me. Kara laughed maniacally. “We won’t wait up on you!”

Isaac helped me step into my shoes and then led me to his truck, laughing at how I’d just gotten kicked out of my house. “Dating you will be easy as long as you live with Kara.”

I scowled at him even as my body readied itself for him. One night of sex with him and I was already eager to get back to it, despite what I’d been telling myself about not doing it again. “I don’t date.”

He opened the door for me and then lifted me into the truck, stepping between my thighs before I could get settled the correct way in the seat. His hands stroked my legs, and he easily took my mouth in a fierce kiss.

I arched my hips into him and opened my mouth for him, eager for more. Grabbing his hair, I pressed my chest into his and moaned his name. I felt like I’d been turned on for days on end and a release was in sight. I needed it. I needed him.

Isaac rubbed his knuckle over my core, through my leggings, and then pulled back with a growl. “Unless you want to be bent over right in the driveway, I suggest we stop now.”

I licked my lips, tasting his kiss, and nodded. “Yep, you’re right. Just don’t touch me again right now.”

He nodded and backed away. “Got it.”

He got in and drove away from Kara’s house, his knuckles white on the steering wheel. I leaned against the door, trying to keep as much space between us as possible. I didn’t even notice he wasn’t driving to his house until he parked in front of the diner on Main Street.

“What are we doing here?”

He opened his door and got out, putting even more space between us. “Having a real date.”

I groaned. “Isaac.”

Laughing, he closed his door and walked around to mine. “That almost sounded like a whine, Mal.”

I wasn’t going to give him the pleasure of me begging to be taken to his house and pleasured. Plus, I was a proper lady. Or at least I pretended to be at times. I could have dinner with him without humping his leg at the table. I had resolve and self-control. “Lead the way.”

He took my hand and pulled me after him into the diner. The place was packed for the dinner crowd, but Isaac managed to find a booth in the back for us. He sat down in the booth next to me and pressed into me. “So. This is dating.”

I laughed, despite myself. “I don’t like you very much.”

“I’ll grow on you.”
