I step into the water and release a shocked gasp. “It’s a little cold tonight.”

“Don’t worry. I won’t judge how small—”

I splash her before she can finish that sentence. “And I won’t judge how your girls are pointing at me.”

She looks down and then back at me. “It is rude to point.”

I tilt my head and say in mock seriousness, “Offensive.”

“Very.”

“Skinny-dipping in the moonlight.” I look around and then my eyes connect back with hers. “This is my first time, ya know?”

“What else have you not done?”

“The rapids.”

“You’ve lived in Egmont all your life and not gotten out on the rapids? I find that hard to believe.”

“Too scared when I was little. Worked too much by the time I got old enough.”

She goes under water and then rises up in front of me. “Tomorrow then.” Her lips dip back into the water, and then she spits water at me.

“You little shit.”

She giggles and swims away. It might’ve been a long time since I’ve been swimming, but I still remember how and, unfortunately for her, I’m fast. I catch her easily and relish the feel of her warm body next to mine. Serenity turns in my arms to face me.

“I’ve missed you.”

“Yeah, me too.”

“Lie with me tonight. I don’t want to be alone in the cabin.”

I answer her by holding her tighter to me.
