“Kit, are you…”
Sully walked into the bedroom, and my heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t put the phone down fast enough.
He frowned. “Kit, what are you doing?”
Think. Think. Think.
“I—it’s not what you think.”
He plucked the phone from my hands. “What am I thinking, Kit?”
“That I was going through your phone.”
“Weren’t you?”
“I swear I wasn’t.”
He cupped my chin. “Don’t lie to me.”
“But I’m not.”
“If you weren’t going through my phone, then what?”
I bit my bottom lip and dropped my gaze. “I was speaking to someone. That’s all.”
“With my phone? What happened to yours?”
I shrugged.
He released my chin and unlocked his phone. “I can’t see anything in the call log.”
“Because I erased it.”
“This makes little sense. Why make a call from my phone and erase it after? Who were you talking to?”
I took his hand in mine. “There’s nothing more I’d rather do than tell you.”
The furrow between his brows deepened. He stared at me long and hard, then reversed our hold so my hand was in his. “It’s okay. You don’t have to make stuff up. I programmed my phone with your biometrics too because I have nothing to hide.” He gently shoved me back to the bed and came down on top of me. “I have no interest in anyone else, Kit. Only you.”
Before I could deny what he was accusing me of, he pressed his lips to mine. His kiss was sweet and gentle. He stroked my cheek, down to my neck, and slid his tongue into my mouth. I fisted the back of his shirt and moaned. Maybe it was better for him to think I was insecure and didn’t trust him.
Sully’s hand found the hem of my dress, and he tugged it up to my waist. “Do I have to make love to you for you to see how crazy I am about you? That I haven’t thought once about anyone else since you came into my life, my sexy little pussycat?”
“Sullivan.” His words warmed my heart, but I pushed at his hand. “I just got my hair done.”
“Do it again. And it doesn’t matter anyway. You’re always beautiful, even with bed hair.”
“But you’re getting my dress wrinkled too.”
“Wear something else.” He nuzzled my neck. “I can’t believe you think I have anything to hide from you.”
“I believe you now. I swear I do.”
He raised his head and stared down at me. “Are you sure?”
I nodded and smiled. “I trust you. Now let’s get off this bed before Maggie stands over us while we’re doing it just to straighten it up after we’re done.”
Sully laughed and got to his feet. He stretched an arm out to help me up. As soon as I was on my feet, I smoothed out the comforter.
